Jacobs dies suddenly Funeral services were held Monday for the Rev. Harold A. Jacobs, 51, who died suddenly Thursday night of a heart attack. He was known state-wide for service on Methodist committees, as well as being division chaplain of the 46th infantry division of the National Guard. During his pastorate here, the educational unit, the Holbrook Memorial gardens and the parking lot were added. He was a 21 year member of the National Guard, serving as an army chaplain also, on a carrier during World War II. He held the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was elevated to head of the Guard chaplains in February, 1966. Born June 6, 1915 in Chicago, he was the son of the Rev. Charles Jacobs. Two brothers were also ministers. Mr. Jacobs took his theological degree from Garrett Theological seminary, Chicago, and served five churches in the Moorestown circuit in 1935. For 7 years he was in Eagle; studying at Michigan State university, Alma college and Bay City. In 1947 he went to the Decatur chuch, next to Three Rivers, then Potter Park, coming here in June, 1959. Surviving are the widow, Winifred, two daughters, Judith Kay and Janet Sue, and a brother, the Rev. Charles Jacobs of Chesaning. Dr. Harold Jayne, district superintendent, officiated at the Methodist church. The body was at rest at Peters and Murray Funeral Home. Interment was in Gresham cemetery.
