LAKE Fred J. Lake passed away at his home in Benton, where he had lived for the past eight years, Wednesday night, March 22, 1939. After a short illness at the age of fifty years, ten months and eight days. He was the only son of Arvine and Emma Lake, born on May 14, 1888 in Vermontville Township, where he spent his boyhood days. On March 3, 1909 he was united in marriage to Vera Gay Briggs of Chester township; to this union were born four children, two dying in infancy. Those left to mourn their loss are his wife, Vera Gay; two sons, Gerald A. and Harold J. of Benton, his mother Mrs Emma Lake, one sister Mrs Pearl Briggs, one nephew Earl Briggs, one niece Mrs Fern Gearhart all of Vermontville, one sister Hazel Barnes preceded him in death. Having been an auto salesman for some years he was well known throughout the county; his many friends extend their sympathy in the loss of a loving husband, father, son and brother. The funeral services were held at the Myron E. Pray funeral home in Charlotte. Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, March 25, 1939. The Rev. Russell McConnell of the Congregational church officiated and interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery at Charlotte.
