WARREN PETERS Mrs. Maria Andrews Peters was born in Addison Co., Vermont, in 1834 and died at Olivet, June 22nd, 1898. She came to Michigan with her parents in 1840, who settled near Marshall; living there a few years and then removing to Eaton Co. When but 15 years old her mother died and upon her young shoulders fell not only the responsibility of housekeeper but the care of four younger children. These duties she cheerfully and conscientiously performed as long as she was needed. In 1850 she was a student at Olivet and later taught school in the township of Brookfield. She was married to Warren S. Peters in 1851 and their first home was in Carmel, and here when in need of home and sympathy often came her younger brother and sisters. She was the mother of nine children and so deep was her affection for children that at different times in her married life she has taken to her heart and home three motherless ones. In 1857 she gave her heart to God and united with the Christian church and has lived a true Christian life. She was deeply interested in temperance work and was for many years a member of the W.C.T.U. She was also an esteemed member of the Rebecca Lodge. All through her protracted illness, during which she suffered much, she never complained. She died as she lived, a lover of the Lord Jesus. She left a husband and six children, Byron Peters of Charlotte, Mrs. Jared Bradley, Luther and Truman Peters of Olivet, Mrs. Frank Miles of Aurelius, and Mrs. Frank Lewis of Columbia, Dakota. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Congregational church, Rev. J. A. Blaisdell and Dr. J. L. Daniels officiating.” Transcribed by Richard Lundeen, September 23, 2000
