Mr. Russ was born in St. Louis, the son of Clarence & Eva (Vanderbeek) Russ. He served in the South-West Pacific with the 41st Division during World War II and received a direct appointment of first lieutenant and was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Heart, and Unit Presidential Citation. He was recalled for active duty in the Korean War and received the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He was a self-employed carpenter for 28 years, building & remodeling homes and commerical buildings in the Barryton area. He was a devoted and faithful member of the United Methodist churches in Lansing, Barryton, and Charlotte for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years; one daughter; one son; one granddaughter ;twin sisters; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Services were July 29 at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte. Interment in West Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
