The circumstances surrounding Mrs Trumbo's death are particularly sad. From statements made by Mr Trumbo, it would appear that their home, near Union City, Tenn., had been visited by chicken thieves on the night previous to her death. According to the story told by the husband he awakened in the night by some noise and saw a figure standing in the doorway of his bedroom. He picked up the rifle, which was standing nearby and fired a shot, striking his wife in the body about three inches below the heart. She lived about three hours after receiving the injury. Verda May Sheren was born in Olive, Clinton County, April ll, 1886, and was married to Uriah Trumbo November 6, 1913. They went to Union City where they have since resided. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.I.Towner, with burial in Delta Center Cemetery..
