Welch, age 67, of 10068 N. Clinton Trail, Sunfield, passed away February 23, 1987 at a Lansing Hospital. He was the son of Ray and Myrtie (Lovell) Welch. Perry was owner of Welch & Son Hardware in Sunfield. Perry had served his community in many ways; for 50 years PJ had been a member of the Sunfield-Sebewa-Danby Volunteer Fire Dept., where for the past 32 years he had been Chief. He served on the Sunfield School board; Sunfield Village council, and was a Charter Member of the Sunfield Lions Club. He had been a Director of Maynard-Allen State Bank in Portland, with branches in Sunfield and Westphalia for 17 years. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W.II. PJ enjoyed farming and was an avid outdoorsman, much of his free time was spent in the Upper Peninsula at Seney hunting and fishing. Funeral services were held February 25, 1987 at 2 pm at the Mapes-Fisher Funeral Home, Sunfield, with the Rev. Gordon Binns of Sunfield Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial was in Sunfield Cemetery. Casket bearers were David Thompson Sr., Hans Huyck, Jack M. Smith, Ivan Suntken, Donald Foltz, and Cecil Rogers. Honorary bearers Sunfield firemen. Memorials may be left at the funeral home for the Sunfield Fireman's Fund and the American Cancer Society. Complete arrangements by Neller Funeral Home, Portland..
