1906 - 1980               

Note:  Horace P. Porter was the son of Horace P. Porter, Sr., and Emma 
(Richardson) Porter born July 29, 1906 and died May 23, 1980 Lansing, Ingham 
Co., MI.  He married Margaret (Howe) Gibbs on June 27, 1962 in Royal Oak, 
Michigan.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Porter was employed by the Chrysler 
Corporation.  He was a veteran of World War II; a member of Royal Oak Lodge 
No. 464 F&AM,; Eaton Rapids Chapter No. 24 RAM; Eaton Rapids Chapter No. 241 
OES; Charlotte Commandery No. 37 KP; VFW Maple City Post, Charlotte; DAV 
Capitol City 8.  Horace passed away on Friday May 23, 1980 at a Lansing 
Hospital at the age of 73.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons, 
Kenneth of Milwakee, Donald of Capac, Mich., and Paul of Constantine, Mich: 
several grandchildren and great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Betty 
Miller of Garden City.  Masonic memorial services were conducted Monday 
evening at 8 by the Eaton Rapids Lodge No. 63 F&AM.  Funeral services were 
held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Shelly Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, MI.  
Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.  Graveside military services will be 
under the auspices of VFW Maple City Post, Charlotte.
 
Margaret Howe was the 10th and last child born to James Issac and Ada (Henry) 
Howe born May 31, 1920 Eaton Rapids, Eaton Co., MI and died on July 11, 2005 
Eaton Rapids, Eaton Co., MI.  She was married to Ivane (Pat) E. Gibbs on 
February 10, 1940 in Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, MI.  They were only married 
for a very short time before divorcing.  She then met and married Horace 
Payson Porter and they were married on June 27, 1962 in Royal Oak, MI.  She 
also was an employee at the Chrysler Corporation as well as her husband.  She 
helped out at Shelly O'Dell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids as well.  Margaret 
passed away at the age of 85 on Monday, July 11, 2005.  Graveside services 
were held at 1 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.  Arrangements by 
Shelly-ODell Funeral Home.
