40TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
        About 40 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs N.
Steward last Thursday evening on the occasion of their 40th wedding
anniversary. The affair was a complete surprise to both the interested
parties and Mr Steward was away from home until after the guests has all
arrived.
        The first of the evening was spent in visiting and reminiscences of old
times. A bountiful supper was enjoyed by all, after which a beautiful linen
table cloth and napkins were presented to the "bride and bridegroom," the
guests were all invited to return again in ten years and help celebrate the
golden wedding.
        Guests were Mr and Mrs Hector Hawkins and daughters, Iva and Juanita, of
Lansing; Mr and Mrs Milton Lent, Mr and Mrs John Welch, and Maxine and
Louise Aldrich of Vermontville; Mr and Mrs E. D. Benedict and son Carrol of
Bismark; Mr and Mrs Waldrof Aldrich and sons, Robert and Leonard, of the
Dow neighborhood; A. D. Steward, Jr., Steward and John Steward of Eaton
Rapids; Mr and Mrs Claud Steward and family, Mr and Mrs Chas. Steward and
family and Mr and Mrs Averl Earle.
