Whitney, pioneer residents of this city. Mrs. Whitney has been a member of the W.R.C. of this city since its organization more than 25 years ago and her husband has been a member of Earl Halbert Post, No. 108, G.A.R. longer than a quarter of a century. Their marriage took place in this city in the old Jenne house, the ceremony being performed by Rev. A.O. Jenne, a Baptist clergyman. Mrs. Whitney was formerly Miss Nancy H. Mann, and is the last of the family of 15 children. She had several brothers in the army and her father, known as Captain Mann, helped drill recruits for the army. She has lived in this vicinity since 1858, coming to Oneida township from Amherst, Ohio, where she was born May 6, 1841. Mr. Whitney, who joined the army the December following his marriage was born in Ellisburg, Jefferson county, New York, and has spent the greater part of his life in the vicinity of Grand Ledge, where with his wife they are highly esteemed. One son, Albion, was born to this marriage but died soon after reaching his twenty-first birthday. The members of Earl Halbert Post, No. 108, and W.R.C., No. 16, assembled at their pretty home on Union st. this afternoon in honor of the occasion.
