Pope 85, of Oden, who died today after a short illness. He had been a resident of Oden for 60 years. Mr. Pope was born on July 31, 1865. He and his late twin brother, Alymer H. Pope, came to Oden from Oak Harbor, Ohio in 1890 and were in the well drilling and contracting business together for many years. Later Mr. Pope served as postmaster for 14 years and had a grocery store in connection. He continued to run the store until the death of his wife in 1937. He then retired and made his home with his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Woodruff, of Petoskey and Oden. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert Woodruff; a sister Mrs. Myrtle Patterson of Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Norman Pope of Detroit; three grandchildren, Robert P. Woodruff and Mrs. D. Clair Jones of Petoskey, and Mrs. Leslie Greenway of Dearborn; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
