Albro age 70 years,former alderman of the Fith Ward,Civil War VeteranGAR Crapo,and a native of Genesee county,died Friday afternoon at his home,1103 Garland St.. His death was causes lap stomach and heart trouble of which he had been suffering for a long peroid. It was not until a week ago last Monday, however that he was forced to his bed. Captain Albro was one of the best known men in Genesee County. He was always a staunch Democrat and had received many positions of honor within the gifts of his friends. He served 11 consecutive years on the board of suppervisors and was the first Demorcrat ever elected chairman of that board, being chosen in 1884 ?( 1894 hard to read) He was elected to a twelth term as supervisor but resigned. He also served eight years as drain commissioner of Genesee County. In the township of Mt. Morris where he spent most of his life, he served as superintendent of schools for three years. Fifteen years ago he came to this city from Mt. morris township. He was elected and served term as alderman of the Fifth ward in which he always lived. As a native of Genesee County he took great interest in the affairs of the Genesee County Pioneer Picnic association and had served as President of that society. Notable War Record The record of Jarvis Albro in the Civil War was a notable one. He enlisted as a private in the Twenty third Michigan Infantry August 11, 1862. He was in the Army of the Ohio. From the ranks he rose through the first and second lieuteniency, being promoted by Govenor Crapo. He was made comand of Company C, of his regiment and served until the close of the war. He was mustered out in July,1865. He participated in the seige of Knoxville,Tenn. and in battles at Resaca,Atlana,Franklin,Nashville and Ft. Anderson, and Kingston,NC Captain Albro was a member of the Gov. Crapo Post No. 145 G.A.R. and at the time of his death was quartermaster of the organization. He had also been commander and chaplain of the post. Born in Mt. Morris Township Jarvis E. Albro was born in Mt. Morris township April 14,1842. He was the son of Rodman W. Albro and Susan (Harps-Harper) Albro who came to genesee County from New York state in 1839 and settled on section 13, Mt. Morris township where the Albro homestead was founded. Rodman Albro died in 1897 and his wife in 1864. Jarvis was the fourth child of seven children.He was reared on the farm and obtained his early education in the district school which he attended until he was 18. He then entered the Union school of Flint which he attended for one year. He taught school for one year before, enlisting in the Army. At the close of the Civil War he returned to Michigan and worked for some time on the farms of James F. Joy and EN Wilcox in Wayne County. He then returned to the old farm in Mt. Morris township where he remained until he came to this city. He was married Dec. 25, 1876 to Miss Margaret L. Carpenter. Captain Albro had been a member of the Garland street MMeth Church for several years.Besides his wife he leaves three sons and three Daughters: Mrs Melvin McNeil (Gertude),Mrs Richard Gilbert(Jessie) ,Morton Jarvis Albro, all of Mt. Morris, Mrs Frank Hollinger ( Alice), Serman Albro, of this city, and Raymon Albro of Kalamazoo,MI. The body will be taken to Mt. Morris Monday for burial. Additional Comments: some dates are hard to read and be sure. Some records have his birth day as July 12,1842. He is buried in Mt. Morris Cemetery, Mt. Morris Rd.
