Kelly Kelly-Stella L. Kelly, 2526 Lawndale, age 66, died Monday, May 19, 1958, at the residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, May 21, 1958, from the Colonial Chapel, Reigle Funeral Home, 2417 Saginaw St., Rev. Charles Pausley officiating. Burial in Sunset hills Cemetery. Mrs. Kelly will remain at the Reigle Funeral Home. Death followed a long illness. She was born in Postville, Iowa, Aug. 22, 1891, and resided in Flint for the last 41 years. Her husband, Frank L. Kelly, preceded her in death June 3, 1957. Surviving are: 3 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Wernette of Davison, Mrs. Marguerite DeRyke of Tarzana, Calif., Miss Dorothy Kelly at home; 3 sons, Donald of Pontiac, Robert of Flint, Earl of Columbus, Ohio; 2 brothers, Wilfred Thiese of Flint, Lenard Thiese of Pontiac; 3 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Fraser of California, Mrs. Ruth Plymal of Alabama, Miss Esther Thiese of Flint; 9 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Additional Comments: Stella L. Kelly was the oldest child of August Thiese who lived with Stella and husband Frank off and on from 1936-1950. She graduated from Alexandria High School in Alexandrian South Dakota where she played girls basketball in 1909. She attended the Grand Island Business College in Grand Island Nebraska where she was on the girls basketball team and was active in school plays. She meet her husband Frank L. Kelly in Chamberlain, South Dakota, as he rode up main street on horseback packing a six shooter on his hip. In 1914 she was photographed with Frank Kelly and her family on American Island in Chamberlain. A year later in 1915 she married Frank Kelly and they began there journey to Michigan. She reportedly made sandwiches for the 1937 sit down strikers in Flint. She served on the Flint ration board during World War II. Stella and her husband Frank were very active in sports in the Flint area. Two of her sons (Don and Earl) were All Saginaw Valley first team and class A all state in basketball for Flint Northern.
