Flint Journal, April 26, 1967
MATTHEWS, Al - 305 E. Russell St., age 58, passed Sunday, April 23, 1967, at 
Detroit General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at 
the New Grace Chapel, of the Greene Home for Funerals, Rev. R. C. George 
officiating. Interment in Peace Memory Gardens.  Mr. Matthews will lie in 
repose at the funeral chapel until time of services.  Relatives, pallbearers, 
and friends will assemble at the residence at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.  He was 
born in Rossville, Tennessee, on January 13, 1909, and has resided in Detroit 
the last 25 years.  Mr. Matthews was employed at Contrust Concrete Products 
Co. of Detroit.  Survivng are: Wife, Minnie Matthews of Kansas City, Missouri; 
3 daughters, Mrs. Mable Hales, Mrs. Albert Furgerson both of Memphis, 
Tennessee, Mrs. Ruth Hayslett of Kansas City, Missouri; 4 sons, Alvin of 
Flint, Ezell, Julius and Henry Lee Matthews all of Memphis, Tennessee; 2 
sisters, Mrs. Susie Hayslett of Memphis, Tennessee, Mrs. Milenda Epps of St. 
Louis, Missouri; brother, Dewitt Davis of Rossville, Tennessee; 15 grandsons, 
18 granddaughters.  Arrangements by Greene Home for Funerals, St. John at 
Garfield.
