R. Spears. Jared R. Spears died at his home west of Birch Run on Friday August 14. Mr. Spears had been sick for several months with a cancerous growth on his face but was able to be about almost all the time. Mr. Spears was born October 14, 1854 in Iowa and came to Pine Run at 14 years of age with his parents. Some 25 years ago he married May Coon of this town to whom six children were born five of whom are living: Mrs. Mildred Racqupaw of Flint, Dora, Ruth, Emma and Manley living at home. He is also survived by two brothers, Cortney[Cortez] C. of Flint, and Marvin W. of Denver, Col. The funeral took place at the home on Sunday, Rev. J. W. Will of Clio officiating with interment in Pine Run cemetery. Mrs. Spears and the children have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. NOTE: The "growth on his face" was said to be caused by an infection from a pitchfork wound to the mouth.
