Thiese, the cause of death being old age. Deceased was born in the Providence Hanover, Schnern, Germany, on April 1, 1835, and therefore was 80 years and 12 days of age at the time of his death. In the year 1865 he came to the United States, settling in Clayton County, Iowa, where he lived until his death. He was married two times, his first wife preceding him in death many years ago. Two sons also preceded him in death, Henry and Louis. For three years his occupation was carpenter, afterwards being successfully engaged in farming. He was a kind and true husband, father, and friend, and also was an ambitious man during his entire life, and therefore was held in high regard by all who knew him. His death is deeply mourned by his wife, seven sons (William, of Mitchell, S.D., August, of Alexandria, S.D., Ferdinand, Herman, Fred, Otto and George, of Guttenberg), three daughters (Mrs John Biederman of Guttenberg, Mrs. Fred Miller, of Clayton, and Mrs. Ed Bergman, Jr., of Rockwell, Iowa) 36 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 1 brother (August Thiese, of Guttenberg) and faithful members of St. John's Luthern Church in this city on Sunday afternoon, and interment will be made in the City Cemetery. Rev. Janzig, of St. John's Lutheran Chuch will conduct funeral services. In the death of Mr. Thiese Clayton County and this community loses one of its most trustworthy citizens and pioneer Additional Comments: William Thiese was the father of August Thiese of Flint, Michigan. He was also the grandfather of Stella Thiese Kelly, William Thiese, Esther Thiese, and Leonard Thiese...all living in or near Flint, Michigan. His Great, Great, Great, Great etc.,,,,,,grandchildren are sprinkled throughout the Genesee County and Michigan area. William is the oldest Thiese discovered so far in the family genealogy.
