From Rhodes take Cummings Road, Travel West 1 V miles to end, turn right 1/10 mile. B'S WILLIAM J. BECK (13 MAR 1930 – 23 OCT 1999) William J. Beck, 69, of Sanford passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday Oct. 23, 1999, after a short battle with cancer. William was born on March 13, 1930, in Midland, the son of Katherine Furst Beck-Howe and the late Nickolas Beck. He served in the Korean War and lived and worked in Midland County. He retired from the Operating Engineers Local No. 324. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving in addition to his mother, Katherine Howe are his four children, Michael N. Beck and his children, Melissa and Adam; Jeffery W. Beck and his wife, Michele and their children, Tasha, Jeffery, Jacob and Justin, Debra S. Fischer and her children, Shane and Taryan, Kathy J. Dobschensky and her daughter, Nicole; and their mother, Kay J. Beck, his brothers and sisters, Nick and Sue Beck, Betty Pomranky, Jim Beck, Barbara and Dermis Brodrick, Nancy and Art Stanton, Sally LaForest and Chuck and Nancy Howe., 18 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews; his special friend Ed Wright, and all the rest of his kids that thought of him as a father figure. Mr. Beck was predeceased by his father Nickolas M. Beck, his stepfather, Ralph Howe, and one brother, Ralph Howe. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 26, 1999, 11 a.m. at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Pastor David Willett of Trinity Wesleyan Church will officiate, with burial in Bentley Township Cemetery. DAVIDSON (13 MARCH 1918 - 21 JUNE 1987) Clark E. Davidson, 69, of Beaverton, died Sunday, June 21, in the Clare Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Standish March 13, 1918, he moved to Beaverton in 1973. Mr. Davidson moved to Beaverton in 1973. Mr. Davidson worked at the Midland Nuclear Plant and retired in 1979. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of the All-Bright Shores F.O.E., the Gladwin County V.F.W. and American Legion Posts. Mr. Davidson and the former Julia Michalek were married Sept. 20, 1980, in Beaverton. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Larry of Standish and Jim of Beaverton; one sister, Anna Leste of Pennsylvania; 2 grandchildren; 5 step-daughters; 18 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great grandchildren. Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. from the Savage Funeral Home, Standish. The Rev. Roy Glasgow officiated and burial was in the Bentley Township Cemetery. Gibson, 44, of Gladwin, died Friday, March 24, 2000 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor after a short illness. Born July 30, 1955 in Gunnerville, Ala., he lived in Gladwin County since 1990 and previously lived in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Keith married Debbie (Warren), Jan. 25, 1980 in Bay City. He was a golf cart technician for Golf Cart Systems in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Dawn Marie and husband Timothy Domin Sr. of Plymouth; three sons, Jason Bulloch, and Brian and Corey Gibson, all of Gladwin; one grandson, Timothy Domin Jr.; one granddaughter, Tiffany Gibson; his mother and stepfather, Susan and Ronald Hicks of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; his father, Howard Eugene Gibson of Alabama; one brother, James Alexander of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two stepbrothers, Raymond Hicks of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Russel Hicks of Warren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin with Rev. Donald Potter officiating. Burial was in Bentley Cemetery in Gibson Township. HOWARD J. GOWER (25 MAY 1895 - 24 JUNE 1963) DIES OF INJURIES IN ACCIDENT Howard J. Gower, 68, of Pinconning, died Monday at Hurley Hospital, Flint, of injuries suffered in an auton accident at Clio on June 14. His wife, Martha, who was with him in the accident is still a patient in the hospital. Born in Gladwin on May 25, 1895, he lived his lifetime in Gladwin County until he moved to Pinconning in November, 1962. He was retired from farming and was a veteran of World War I. He was married to the former Martha Gilbert on Nov. 8, 1962. Besides his life, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edna Pashby, of Clio; and three brothers, George, of Midland, Fred, of Frankenmuth, and Floyd, of Gladwin. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Ross Tracy officiating. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 06-26/1963 Column - 3 Page - 1 K'S FRANK KATZER (26 NOV 1862 - 6 JAN 1945) PIONEER RHODES RESIDENT DIES Frank Katzer, 82, pioneer Gladwin county resident, passed away at the home of a daughter in Flint on Saturday, January 6th. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Hope American Lutheran Church in Rhodes with the Rev. A. Graf officiating. Burial was in the Bentley township cemetery. Born in Austria on November 26, 1862. Mr. Katzer came to this country as a boy of 15. He first settled in Mio and later moved to Rhodes where he had been a resident for the past 52 years. At the time of his death he was making his home with his daughter, Mrs. H. Summers, of Flint. He was a member of the Hope American Lutheran Church at Rhodes. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Summers, of Flint, and Mrs. Phil Geroux, of Toronto, Ontario; two sons, Albert, of Flint, and Frederick, of Rhodes; a brother Charles, of Rhodes; and five grandchildren. Gladwin County Record dated 01-10/1945 Column - 2 Page - 1 N'S JAMES E. NETTLETON (9 JUNE 1911 - 1 DEC 1989) James E. (Gene) Nettleton, 78, of Rhodes, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1989, in the Gladwin Pines Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Rhodes, June 9, 1911, he had spent his lifetime there and was a dairy farmer. Mr. Nettleton was a retired employee of Magline and attended the Rhodes Community Church. Mr. Nettleton and the former Frankie Brumley were married Jan. 18, 1941, in Bay City. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Bud of New Baltimore; 4 daughters, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Little of Rhodes, Mrs. Jerry (Ruth) Dittmar of Freeland, Mrs. Mike (Barbara) Shelson of Caro and Mrs. Douglas (Lorraine) Jackson of Midland; and 9 grandchildren. Rites were held Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. from the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home, Pinconning. Pastor Charles Green officiated and burial was in the Bentley Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 01-03/1990 Column - 3 Page - 2 P'S ROBERT P. PETTIT (23 DEC 1841 - 23 SEP 1919) AKA. ROBERT P. PEYETTE (FEYETTE) AGED - RESIDENT AND OFFICIAL OF SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP PASSES AWAY. The death of Robert Pettit occurred Sept. 23, 1919, at the age of 77 years and nine months. He was born in Middlesex county, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 23, 1841, and at the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Indiana. During the Civil war he served in the Union army. He had been a resident of this locality near Rhodes 27 years, and for several years up to his death resided in Sheridan township, where he was a justice of the peace. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and three sons, James, Erny and Clarence, also three sisters and one brother. Gladwin County Record dated 10-09/1919 Column - 7 Page - 1 {ON THE 1890 CENSUS AS A CIVIL WAR VETERAN LIVING IN BUCKEYE TOWNSHIP}. R'S THELMA T. (TRERICE) ROWE (4 JUNE 1912 - 27 SEP 1994) Thelma T. Rowe, 82, of Bay City and formerly of Midland, died Sept. 27, 1994 at her home. Born June 4, 1912 in Silverwood, she graduated from Bay City Central High School and Bay City Junior College. Mrs. Rowe had been a Midland resident since 1978 and worked as a librarian until her retirement. The former Thelma Trerice, she married John Levandoski June 30, 1934 and he preceded her in death Nov. 1, 1955, Thelma then married Lawrence Rowe Jan. 27, 1961 and he died July 11, 1979. She is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara Ross of Bay City, Kathleen and husband Richard Wildey of Sanford, and Evelyn and husband Howard Woodruff of Lake Ann; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Levandoski of Westland; one brother, Winston Trerice of Birmingham; 2 sisters, Pearl and husband Max Gordanier, and Betty and husband Tony Oliva, all of Sebastian, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded by a son, John Levandoski and a brother, Arthur Trerice. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 from the Wilson Miller Funeral Home with Elder Keith Chapman officiating. Burial was in Bentley Township Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 10-05/1994 Column - 1 Page - 6 S'S DEDRIE SCHAARD (? - 10 APRIL 1911) Mrs. Dedrie Schaard died Sunday morning and was buried Tuesday afternoon. Deceased was born in Germany. She leaves a husband and two sons to mourn her loss. Services were held at the house conducted by the German Lutheran minister from Pinconning. Interment in Bentley cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 04-13/1911 Column - 5 Page - 1 W'S BERNICE (GROVE) WILLETT (12 JULY 1908 - 4 SEP 2003) Bernice Willett, age 95, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at the Gladwin Living Center following a long illness. She was born on July 12, 1908 in Defiance, Ohio to the late Marshall and Carrie (McQuestion) Ney. She married Horace Willett Sept. 3, 1928 in Gladwin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1969. She retired from teaching after 35 years. She also volunteered her time as a Ladies Aid at the hospital and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by three son, Eugene (Virgilene) Willett of Lennon, Jack (Helen) Willett of Dolores, Col., and Dennis (Linda) Willett of Gladwin; four daughters, Wilma (Frank) Kempl of Rhodes, Faye (Paul) Adams of Dayton, Ohio, Yvonne “Bonnie” (Delmar) Tomlinson of Midland, and Dolores Fennell of Gladwin; 28 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Eva Garver and Myrtle (Clarence) Cremains, both of Gladwin. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, seven brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 at the Sisson Funeral Home, with Rev. Lynn Chappell presiding, and with burial in Bentley Cemetery, Bentley. The Sisson Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. JOSEPH WILLIAMS (28 OCT 1910 - 11 FEB 1911) Joseph, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Williams, died Feb. 11 at their home in Estey, aged 3 months and 14 days.
