(Jack) Eagle, 68, of 4488 West Dale Rd., Beaverton, died Monday, July 3, in the Clare Osteopathic Hospital. Born in Cowen, W. Va., on August 23, 1909, he came to Gladwin County in 1946. Mr. Eagle was retired from the Dow Chemical Co. and was self-employed in construction. He served in the U.S. Army from 1934 to 1938. He and the former Catherine (Betty) Barkley were married on May 9, 1946, in Detroit. Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 sons, Wayne, a major in the Army at Falls Church, Va., George of Clare, Gary and Charles of Beaverton; one daughter, Joanna Statler of Farwell; 4 step-sons, Rev. Clarence Moore and Ralph Moore of Beaverton, S/Sgt. Norbert Moore with the Army in Trenton, Ill., and Barry Bailey of Vienna, Va.; 4 brothers, Homer of Detroit, Myles and Rodney of Flora Home, Fla. and Rolland of Cowen, W. Va.; one sister Mrs. Garledeen Morris of Akron, Ohio; and 21 grandchildren. Services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. Arthur Munger and the Rev. IRA EARLY SUCCUMBS MONDAY Mrs. Ira Early, 72, of Beaverton, died Monday evening after a three weeks' illness with a heart ailment. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Beaverton Church of the Brethren with the Rev. E. S. Hollinger officiating. Burial will be in the Dale cemetery. Daughter of Samuel and Martha Miller, Ada Early was born in North Manchester, Indiana, on October 7, 1871. She was married to Ira Early in Woodland, Michigan, on June 3, 1897. The Earleys were among Beaverton's pioneer residents, moving there in 1898. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Gaylen, of Detroit, and Harold, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Dykhuis, of Morenci, and Mrs. Glady Huber, of Bellfontaine, Ohio; and two sisters, Miss Olive Miller and Mrs. Weltha Long, of Beaverton. EDDY (1887 – 30 APR 1974) ANN (ARNETT) ELZAY (11 FEB 1909 - 10 AUG 1998) Ann Elzay, 89, of Beaverton, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998 at Tender Care Nursing Home in Clare after a short illness. Born Feb. 11, 1909 in Salyersville, Ky., she lived in Gladwin County 65 years and previously lived in Kentucky. Ann married Earl Elzay, March 25, 1934 in Roscommon. He preceded her in death Nov. 12, 1956. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two brothers, Sidney Arnett Jr. of Chelsea, and Boyd Arnett of Lowell; one sister, Prude Salyers of Chelsea; one niece, Etta Jean Hughes of Harbor Springs; one grand niece, Carolyn Hughes of Harbor Springs; and one grand nephew, Patrick Hughes of Livonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial was in Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dale United Methodist Church. Arrangements were in charge of Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. Gladwin County Record dated 08-12/1998 Column - 3 Page - 2 CURT WILLARD ELZAY (7 OCT 1889 - 24 MAY 1961) ILLNESS FATAL TO CURT ELZAY Curt Willard Elzay, 71, of Beaverton, died Wednesday at the Clare General Hospital after a short illness. A retired oil worker, he was born Oct. 7, 1889, in Blufton, Ohio, coming to Gladwin County in 1926. He was married to the former Ottie Malosh in 1950 at Sand Lake. Surviving besides his widow, are a daughter, Mrs. Etta Jean Hughes, of Detroit; four step-sons, John and Edward Malosh, of Beaverton, Richard Malosh of Gladwin and Donald Malosh of Flint; two step-daughters, Mrs. Berniece Davis, Manitou Beach, and Mrs. Helen Rise of Lake; three grandchildren and three sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Beaverton Methodist Church with the Rev. Gordon Showers officiating. Burial was in the Dale Cemetery. Elzay, 73, died at his home in Tobacco Township on November 12 after a three months illness. He had been a resident of Gladwin county for 29 years. Mr. Elzay was born in Findley, Ohio on May 25, 1883. In 1934 he was married to the former Ann Arnett in Roscommon. Surviving Mr. Elzay are his wife; one brother, Curtis of Beaverton; and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Sero and Mrs. Grace Park of Detroit, Mrs. Fay Gravitt and Miss Daisy Elzay of Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Verne Summers officiating. Burial will be in the Dale cemetery. Elzay, 82, of 503 Lang Rd., Beaverton, died suddenly of a heart attack at her home Wednesday, Feb. 23. Born in Paulding County, Ohio, on August 30, 1900, had spent most of her life in Gladwin County. She was a member of the Beaverton United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Harrison. The former Ottie Perry, she was married to Ralph E Malosh March 5, 1919. He died June 14, 1943. She married Curt Elzay in November 1950 and he preceded her in death May 24, 1961. Surviving are 4 sons, John and Edward of Beaverton, Donald of Flint and Richard of Gladwin; 2 daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Berniece) Davis of Harrison and Mrs Alvin (Helen) Rise of Silver Springs, Fla.; 2 brothers, Sheridan of Spokane, Wash, and Jessie of Hazel Park; 2 sisters, Mrs. Vesta Conley of Mexico Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Mae Smith of Bradenton, Fla.; 26 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. Gladwin County Record dated 03-02/1983 Column - 4 Page - 2 LENA PEARL ENDICOTT (1928 – 9 FEB 1999) RICHARD JOSEPH ENGLE (31 DEC 1962 - 13 MARCH 1966) YOUNGSTER DROWNS SUNDAY A three-year-old Gladwin youngster drowned Sunday morning about 11:05 a.m. while playing near the dam on Wiggins Lake. Richard Joseph Engle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Doyle, of 2674 Parkway, Gladwin, had been throwing stones out onto the ice when he apparently slipped off the bank into about four or five feet of open water, investigating sheriff's officers said. He was visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gaines, caretaker of Chappel Dam, at the time of the mishap. Gaines recovered Richard's body and gave artifical respiration. Two Gladwin firemen, Jack Mawhorter and Henry Ziemer, were summoned with a resusitator, but efforts to revive the youngster failed. Richard was born in Wayne on Dec. 31, 1962. He had lived in Gladwin with his parents for three months. Besides his parents and grandparents, he is survived by a brother, Thomas III, at home. Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home. The Rev. Randall Roose officiated and burial was in Dale Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 03-16/1966 Column - 2 Page - 1 FLOYD M. ERICKSON (12 AUG 1917 - 22 SEP 1991) Floyd M. Erickson, 74, of 5171 Pleasant Dr., Beaverton, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1991, in the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Midland, after a long illness. Born in Washington Township, Gratiot County, Aug. 12, 1917, he moved to Gladwin County in 1980 from Mt. Clemens. Mr. Erickson was a welder for Ford Motor Co. in Ithaca, and retired in 1980 after 22 1/2 years. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Gladwin County VFW Post 7303. Mr. Erickson and the former Vera Brohard were married Oct. 8, 1939, in St. Louis. Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, Maynard of Washington State; 2 sisters, Helen Reed of Florida and Mary Johnson of California; 2 half brothers, Marshall Griffin of Flint and Lewis Griffin of Breckenridge; and a half-sister, Connie Olson of California. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters. Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. Pastor Curtis Gordon officiated and burial was in Tobacco Township Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 09-25/1991 Column - 2 Page - 2 VERA M. (BROHARD) ERICKSON (15 MAY 1918 - 15 JULY 1997) Vera M. Erickson, 79, of Midland, died suddenly, Tuesday, July 15, 1997 at her home. Born May 15, 1918 in Elizabeth W. V., she lived in Midland the past three years and previously lived in Beaverton. She was a homemaker in her own home. The former Vera Brohard married Floyd (Melvin) Erickson, Oct. 8, 1939 in St. Louis. He preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1991. Surviving are two sisters, Leona and husband Carl Hayes of Midland and Louise Trimble of Orem, Ut.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel with Pastor Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery, Beaverton. Gladwin County Record dated 07-23/1997 Column - 1 Page - 2 CEYLON EUPER (9 AUG 1909 - 9 JUNE 1911) DROWNED IN A WELL LITTLE SON OF THERON EUPER OF TOBACCO TOWNSHIP. Dale, June 15--- Our neighborhood was greatly shocked Friday afternoon when the report came out that Ceylon, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Theron Euper had drowned in the well. He had been gone from the house but a short time when he was missed, and a search was begun, when they found him in the well. He had lifted the middle board to the cover and let it slide in the well and it is though that he went in with the board. Dr. Sturge was called and did all that could be done, to restore life without avail. He was 1 year and 10 months old. Mrs. Euper's health is in a very delicate condition, having an infant daughter only two weeks old. The funeral was held at the hall Sunday at 1 o'clock. Rev. Johnson officiating. Interment in Dale cemetery. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community. CORA LOUISE (INGALLS) FASSETT - EVANSON (31 JULY 1905 - OCT 1984) Cora Louise Evanson, 79, of Beaverton, died Sunday, Oct. 21, in Phoniex, Ariz. Born in Minto, N.D. on July 31, 1905, she had lived in Gladwin County 30 years. The former Cora Ingalls, she was married to Sherman Fassett Sept. 16, 1924, in Glasgow, Mont. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1956. She then married Oscar Evanson on Jan. 16, 1965 and he died Sept. 19, 1977. Surviving are 6 sons, Kenneth of Coleman, Richard and David of Gladwin, Gordon of Midland, Robert and Sherman of Beaverton; 6 daughters, Mrs. Paul (Betty) Mishler, Mrs. Larry (Laveta) Anderson and Mrs. Delwin (Mary Lou) Voller of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Mrs. Duaine (Irene) Dennett of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Raymond (Nancy) McClain of Pea Ridge, Ark. and Mrs. Leonard (Janice) Govitz of Beaverton; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Pointer of Nashua, Minn.; 38 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. A daughter, Kathleen Fassett, preceded her in death May 7, 1955. A memorial service will be held at the Beaverton Church of the Brethren Friday at 2 p.m. A private burial service will be held later at the Dale Cemetery. CLAUD FAIRCHILD DIES IN DETROIT Mrs. Claud Fairchild died at her home in Detroit New Year's Day. Services were held at her home there Friday morning and here at Dale Methodist Saturday afternoon and burial was made in the Dale cemetery. Rev. Harold Hodgson of the Methodist church officiated. Chloe Bergman was born May 16, 1882, in Ohio. Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Floyd, Clare, Ward and Dick, all of Detroit; two daughters, Maxine at home an Mildred Krieger of Prudenville; two sisters, Laura Quelet and Nora Mishlers of here, two brothers Lawrence and Ralph Bergman, also of Beaverton; two uncles, Eber Bergman, of Helena, Ohio; Harvey Thomas of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Gladwin County Record dated 01-15/1941 Column - 6 Page - 4 CLAUDE D. FAIRCHILD (4 OCT 1878 - 13 MAY 1971) Claud D. Fairchild, 92, of 926 Dale Road, Tobacco Township, died Thursday, May 13, at the Clare Hospital, following an extended illness. Born in Lyons, Ohio, October 4, 1878, Mr. Fairchild came to Gladwin County with his parents in 1884. He lived here most of his life except for 21 years in Detroit. He owned and operated the Dale Store for many years, and served as justice of the peace and in other township offices. Mr. Fairchild was a charter member of the Dale United Methodist Church. He was married in Detroit in November 1941 to the former Ida French. Surviving are his wife, Ida; two sons, Clare of Detroit, and Richard of Walled Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Kreger of Prudenville, and Mrs. Maxine Glass of Sima, Calif,; a step-daughter, Mrs. Esther Broka of Beaverton; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Two sons, Floyd and Ward, are deceased. Services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dale United Methodist Church with teh Rev. Zina Bennett officiating. Burial was in the Dale Cemetery Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton, was in charge of the services. Gladwin County Record dated 05-19/1971 Column - 3 Page - 2 CORA FAIRCHILD (1868 - 1937) DANIEL WEBSTER FAIRCHILD (1852 - 08 FEB 1935) FAIRCHILD RESIDENCE AT DALE DESTROYED BY FIRE The home of D. W. Fairchild at Dundas Corners was completely destroyed by fire Thursday noon. Sparks from the chimney caught in the roof and before it was discovered the second story was all on fire. Some things were saved. No insurance. The Fairchilds are staying temporary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown. Gladwin County Record dated 03-13/1935 Column - 4 Page - 4 DAVID SHERMAN FAIRCHILD (8 JAN 1844 - 8 JULY 1916) David Sherman Fairchild, former resident of Beaverton died at his home at Charlevoix, July 8. Comrade David Sherman Fairchild was born at Greenfield Center, Huron county, Ohio, Jan. 8, 1844. He enlisted in the Civil war, in Co. K., Thirty-eight, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Sept. 10, 1861, at the age of 17 years and 8 months, and was honorably discharged May 9, 1862, by reason of a surgeon's certificate of disability. Prompted by patriotism and devotion to his country he re-enlisted in 1863 and served his county as a faithful soldier until the close of the war, having given his services and offered his life to his country for two years and eight months. He was a member of athe Baxter G.A.R. post at Lyons, Ohio, until 1884, and after coming to Gladwin he joined Noble post G.A.R. There Comrade Fairchild was a long sufferer from rheumatism caused by exposure while in the service. He went with his family to Charlevoix several years ago and made his home there until July 8 when he answered the last roll call, at the age of 72 years, six months. He was brought to Beaverton for burial at his former home. Gladwin County Record dated 07-13/1916 Column - 4 Page - 1 DOROTHY (PARRISH) FAIRCHILD (1910 - 1985) EILEEN FAIRCHILD (1900 - 1980) ELLIS FAIRCHILD (8 JAN 1844 - 8 JULY 1916) EZRA NOBLE FAIRCHILD (3 APRIL 1850 - 23 FEB 1927) Ezra Noble Fairchild was born April 3, 1850, at Sharon Center, Medina county, Ohio, and departed this life February 23, 1927, at 8 a.m., at the age of 76 years and 11 months. He was one of a family of 10 children, seven having preceded him to the better land. March 14, 1875, he was married to Miss Phila Gillis, who survives him. To them were born three children, the eldest having died at the age of three months. The other two are Claude Fairchild of Redford, Michigan, and Mrs. Bert H. Harper of Washington, D.C. In 1884 he moved to Tobacco township, Gladwin county, Michigan, being one of the pioneers of that township. He moved to Beaverton in 1908 where he has since made his home. His health having failed he went to Redford in November to stay with his son, where he died very suddenly of heart failure. Besides his widow, son and daughter, he leaves to mourn two brothers, Marshall of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Daniel of Beaverton, six grandchildren, two great grand children, a number of nephews and neices and a host of friends. He was a highly respected citizen. The body was brought to Beaverton from Detroit, Friday and the funeral services were held Saturday morning from the Methodist church. Rev. A. J. Preston officiating. Burial in the Dale cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 03-03/1927 Column - 3 Page - 4 EUGENE FAIRCHILD (1869 - 1941) IDA FAIRCHILD (FEB 1890 - 17 DEC 1974) DELAYED NEWS Our community was saddened by the passing of Mrs. Ida Fairchild last week. She was the mother of Mrs. Esther Broka and aunt of Leonard and Jim French. Memorial services were Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Dale Methodist Church. Our sympathy and prayers for her family. She will be greatly missed. Gladwin County Record dated 01-01/1975 Column - 5 Page - 8 LILLIAN (SORGE) FAIRCHILD (1902 - NOV 1920) {Headstone & Obituary Book don’t match} MRS. FLOYD FAIRCHILD Particularly sad to the people of Dale is the death of Lillian, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sorge, and wife of Floyd Fairchild. Her childhood was lived mostly in this community where she had endeared herself to all. Hard to give up our loved ones to the grim reaper in any case, it is peculiarly so when that one is sweet and fair and in the springtime of life. Lillian graduated from Beaverton high school with the class of "twenty" and became a bride in June. It seemed that she had much to live for. She was a member of Dale M.E. church where she will be greatly missed. She was also a "Gleaner" and the members of Dale Arbor deplore their loss. The funeral was largely attended and the deepest sympathy was expressed by all for the grief stricken parents and husband. FAIRCHILD Mrs. Philla Gills Fairchild, 89, died at the home of her son, Claude, of Tobacco township, on Sunday, February 24. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Dale Methodist church, at 2 o'clock, with burial in the Dale cemetery. The Rev. Donal Sailor officiated. Mrs. Fairchild was born in Fulton County, Ohio, on August 27, 1856. She was married there to Mr. Fairchild i 1875, moving to Tobacco township shortly after, they engaged in farming. In 1907 they retired from farming and moved to Beaverton, later they moved to Detroit, where Mr. Fairchild died in 1925. Until the last two years Mrs. Fairchild had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Harper, of Arlington, Virginia. Two years ago she returned to Tobacco township to live with her son. Mrs. Fairchild was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's Society in Beaverton for a number of years. Surviving besides her son and daughter are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Born April 13, 1929 in Gladwin, he was a lifetime resident of Clare County. Donald married Grace Blades, March 23, 1957 in Beaverton. He was a mechanic for McClure Brothers in Clare, retiring in 1982 after 36 years. He was a member of the Lake Eagles Aerie 3761. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children, Vickie and David Wheeler and Sheri Renas, all of Gladwin, Judy and Michael Janice of Beaverton, Candi and Dennis Kellsey of Weidman, Donald L. Farrow Jr. of Farwell, Roger Farrow, Eugene and Lisa Farrow of Lake, Linda Priest of Gladwin, Sue Bard of Jackson, Timothy and Loretta Farrow of Hope, Michael Farrow of Gladwin; stepchildren, Shirley and William Beemer of Farwell, Alan and Muriel Armstrong of Stem, N.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Krahner, and Lila Mae Mielke, both of Gladwin, and Louella Easlick of Farwell; and several nieces and nephews. PATTY JO FARROW (28 AUG 1964 - 13 NOV 1964) SERVICES HELD FOR INFANT Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home for Patty Jo Farrow, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Farrow, of Beaverton Township, who died at her home Friday after a short illness. Born on August 28, 1964, she is survived by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, Vickie, Sheri, Judy, Candi, Donald Jr., Tommie, Roger and Clint, all at home; and seven half brothers and sisters, Shirley and Allen both at home, and Linda, Terry, Sue, Tim and Mike. Born in Detroit, July 5, 1925, he moved to the Beaverton and Coleman area in 1946. Mr. Fassett was a semi-retired as traffic manager for Robinson Industries. Born in Midland County on September 23, 1941, she had spent most of her life in Gladwin County. She was a 1959 graduate of Beaverton High School and received a B.S. degree in mathematics from Central Michigan University in 1963. She taught at Gladwin High School for 6 years and retired from Beaverton High School after 6 years due to health. She was born in Ireland Jan. 12, 1846, and was aged 69 years and 14 days. In 1863 she was married to David Scott and in 1864 came to New York. They moved to Gladwin county in 1878. Mr. Scott died in 1910. She was the mother of six children; three sons Will, James, and Norman Scott; three daughters, Mrs. Lida Lince, Mrs. Hattie Fairchild and Miss Maude Scott., who died in 1900. She was married to Finley Ferguson Feb. 7, 1912. Services were held at the residence Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Tiffany of Beaverton assisted by the Beaverton choir. Hollinger, for Ira Fike, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Bender in Saginaw, Sunday, February 9. Burial was made the Dale Cemetery. Mr. Fike was born March 12, 1877, in West Virginia and moved to Michigan with his parents when he was 12 years old. FLOCK (1 JULY 1943 - 30 OCT 1966) VIETNAM VET DIES IN AUTO SP/4 Gary Flock, of the U.S. Army, was killed in an autonmobile accident near Colorado Springs, Colo., Sunday, Oct. 30. The 23-year-old soldier is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Flock, of Beaverton. SP. Flock had spent a year in Viet Nam and only recently returned to this country and was stationed at Ft. Carson, near Colorado Springs. A 1962 graduate of the Beaverton High School, he had enlisted in the military service on March, 1965. Flock, 79, well known and long time resident of Gladwin County, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Inman, in Beaverton Monday morning, April 25, following a long illness. The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Flock, he was born June 7, 1876 at Wyandotte, Michigan. Aside from 13 years spent in Nebraska, he has spent the rest of his life in Michigan, the past more than 50 years in Gladwin County. On May 17, 1908, he was married to the former Miss Rosetta Coolidge, who preceded him in death February 28, 1953. In 1946 because of failing health the Flocks moved to Beaverton. While working for the latter he received a medal for saving a passenger train wreck when he found a broken rail. Kate Nobel, was born in 1859 in Drumore, Ireland, the daughter of William and Mary Nobel. She came to Lyons, Ohio, at the age of 17 to make her home with the Rynd family. On September 8, 1910 she was married to William Foster, at Wauseon, Ohio. They came to Michigan and settled on their farm in Tobacco township, until the time of Mr. Foster's death in 1931. Later Mrs. Foster moved to Gladwin, and has made her home with Mrs. Emrick for the past nine months. Mrs. Foster leaves no living relatives but many dear friends. Foster, 25, a former resident of Gladwin county, was drowned Sunday afternoon in Budd Lake at Harrison when his boat capsized. Two other passengers in the boat when it overturned, Nancy Straubel, 16, and her brother, Albert, 14, of Midland, were rescued by nearby swimmers and boaters. Larry Foster was born April 22, 1930 in Midland, with his parents he moved to Beaverton in 1943 and in 1949 they moved to Roscommon. He was employed as a laboratory technician at Dow Chemical Company and lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dziadosz in, Midland. He spent two years in the service during the Korean war. Mrs. Mary Freeman (nee Smith) died Nov. 22, 1912, at her home near Dale. She was born in Canada in 1844, was united in marriage to George Freeman and with him in the year 1878 moved to Tobacco township, Gladwin county, where she since resided until death called her. At the time they came here there were only two families in this part of the county, they being James Dow's and Charles Robinson's. This country was a dense forest with no roads nor bridges, only trails. After about eight years her husband died, and she was left with a family of small children to support. She never became discouraged but braved the hardships of a life in a rew country, and made a home for her dear ones. She had always experienced unusual good health until about two years ago when she became afflicated with cancer of the breast. Everything was done to effect a cure but this seemed impossible. She suffered untold agony for a long while before her death, but bore it all so patiently, always being so kind, and trying to avoid being any burden to those caring for her. She leaves to mourn the loss, an aged mother, Mrs. Smith of Genesee, a brother, Peter Smith of Genesee, one daughter, Mrs. Jane Wagoner of Dale, five sons, George, Eugene, and Garfield of Dale and Lee and Solon of Strong, Mich., and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Dale Methodist church with the Rev. Donald Sailor officiating. Burial made in the Dale cemetery. Mrs. French was born in Ontario, Canada on November 28, 1861 and came to Gladwin County 54 years ago, from Huron County. Her husband, Nelson French passed away on September 6, 1918. Surviving are five sons, Charles, of Carter, Wisconsin, William and Herbert, of Beaverton. John, of Detroit and Elmer, of Midland; four daughters, Mrs. Carrie Randall, of Kinde, Mrs. Ida Fairchild, of Beaverton, Mrs. Hattie Crow of Wayland, Mrs. Meda Fauter, of Bay City and Mrs. Edna Reinbold, of Flint; one sister, Mrs. Sue Carnigan of Chase; also 35 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. One son, Nelson, preceded his mother in death in 1911. Her grandsons acted as pallbearers. He was married to Bessie Dalton on Nov. 22, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant. Linnie Jane French, the daughter of Percy and Clara Smith, was born October 15, 1902 in Bay City. On December 23, 1920, she was married to Herbert French. Mr. French was born in St. Clair county, Mich., July 4, 1854, and was married to Miss Esther Ringler at Big Rapids, Mich., Dec. 25, 1878. To this union were born eleven children, all of whom excepting one survive their father. The deceased was a daughter of Andrew and Julia Snyder of Tobacco township, Gladwin county. She was born in Lyons, Ohio, Nov. 23, 1886. The greater part of her life was spent in Gladwin county. Dec. 25, 1910, she was united in marriage to William French in Beaverton. French, 34, of Sanford, was found early Sunday morning by a neighbor in a field near his home. Coroner A. H. Bradley, of Midland, said that French had ended his own life by firing a charge from a 20-gauge shotgun into his head Sunday morning about 3:40 o'clock. Bradley, who ruled death a suicide and said that no inquest would be held, declared that no motive had been found for French's action. No members of his family or his neighbors reported hearing the shot. French was born Aug. 14, 1911, in Gladwin county, and had resided in Sanford for the past five years. Surviving are his widow; Laverne; three children, Larry, Jo-Anne and Jeanne, all at home; his father, William French, of Beaverton, a brother, Evert; and a sister, Muriel, both of Midland. Garver, 66, of Beaverton, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998 at home in Tobacco Township, after a short illness. Born Feb. 16, 1932 in Clare County, he lived in Gladwin County since 1994 and previously lived in Bellville. Robert married the former Dorothea Smith, May 29, 1954 in Houghton Lake. He was a veteran. Monroe, Durand, died Monday, May 14, 1990, in the Durand Convalescent Center after a long illness. Born in Bear Lake, Aug. 7, 1896, she lived most of her life in Flint. She moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1959 and to Durand in October 1989. Mrs Farley was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, church pianist, a member of the Ladies Aid Society and worked with children of the church. The former Clara Smith, she was married to Waldo Glidden in 1919 in Flint. He died in 1952. She then married Claude Farley in 1956 in Flint and he died in 1978. Gladwin County Record dated 05-16/1990 Column - 4 Page - 2 CLARENCE HARTWILL GLIDDEN (28 FEB 1885 - 16 MARCH 1959) CLARENCE GLIDDEN DIED SUDDENLY Clarence H. Glidden, 74, died suddenly Monday at his hom in Beavertn. He was born in Billings Township on February 28, 1885 and in 1910 was married to the former Miss Queen Oliver, who survives him. They farmed in Tobacco Township until 1948. Mr. Glidden was well-known throughout the county as a purebred horse breeder. Survivors besides his wife, are: a daughter, Mrs. Vera McKimmy, of Midland; two brothers, Charles, of Holly and Harvey, of Detroit; two grandchildren, Mrs. Carol Yost, of Beaverton, and Donald Wagar, of Midland; and four great grandchildren. Gladwin County Record dated 03-18/1959 Column - 3 Page - 1 ELZADA (HARRIS) GLIDDEN (8 OCT 1861 - 28 DEC 1927) Elzada Harris was born Oct. 8, 1861, in Dayden township, Lapeer county, Mich., and departed this life Dec. 23, 1927, being 66 years, 2 months and 15 days of age. She moved to Edenville township, Midland county, with her parents at the age of four years, being among the early settlers of that township. She was married to Enoch Glidden Sept. 6, 1883, moving to Gladwin county in the spring of 1884 and has since been a resident of this county. To this union were born five children: Clarence Hartwell Glidden of Tobacco township, Gladwin county; Waldo Avery Glidden of Flint; Charles Comstock Glidden of Bay City; one daughter, Winnie Glidden, who died at the age of 10 months; Harvey Knox Glidden of Chicago, Ill. She was a devoted Christian, having been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church for about 40 years. She has been a patient suffering for the last four years of sugar diabetes. She was willing to go and was listening for the final summons of the faith that she will meet her Saviour in the morning of the first resurrection, and will be able to say, "This is my Saviour, I have waited for Him." It can well be said she was a true wife who loved her home and family, always mindful of good counsel to her boys, and was loved most by those who knew her best. She leaves to mourn her husband, four sons, two sisters, three brothers and a host of friends. "HER MOTTO" " I shall pass through this world but once. GLIDDEN (16 SEP 1861 - 13 FEB 1931) Enoch Glidden died at the General hospital, Bay City, at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1931, of flu. Mr. Glidden, who was living with his son, Harvey K. Glidden, was apparently well and able to attend to his work until last Thursday, when he was taken ill and retired to his bed. Early Friday morning he got out of bed and tripped over a chair, breaking his arm at the elbow. He did not improve and was taken Monday to the General hospital at Bay City, where he died shortly after midnight. His body was brought to Gladwin lated Tuesday afternoon. Enoch Glidden was born Sept. 16, 1861 in Maine. He came to Gladwin in the early, 80's worked in the lumber camps 20 years, later taking up farming and real estate. He was married Sept. 6, 1883, to Miss Elzada Harris at Edenville. Five children, Clarence Hartwill Glidden of Tobacco township, Charles Comstock Glidden of Bay City, Waldo Avery Glidden of Flint, one daughter Winnie who died at the age of 10 months, and Harvey Knox Glidden of Gladwin, were born to them. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church at Beaverton this afternoon at 2:30, followed by burial at Dale cemetery beside Mrs. Glidden, who died Dec. 23, 1927. He was a sincere and devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. Gladwin County Record dated 01-15/1931 Column - 5 Page - 1 HARVEY KNOX GLIDDEN, SR (26 AUG 1896 - 4 JULY 1962) EX-BEAVERTON MAN VICTIM OF CAR ON BRIDGE Funeral services for Harvey K. Glidden, 65, a former Beaverton resident, were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home. Burial was in Dale Cemetery. Elder James Cunnington, of Lansing, officiated at the rites. Mr. Glidden was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a car while fishing off a bridge over the Muskegon River in Roscommon County. Police said Glidden, his son, Harvey Jr., 26, and daughter-in-law, Evelyn, 19, were all struck at the same time. The young couple was taken to Mercy Hospital, Grayling with fractures and back injuries, police reported. Mr. Glidden was born in Tobacco Township, Aug. 26, 1896, and was married to Marie Szatkowski in Bad Axe, June 30, 1920. A commercial photographer in Detroit, he retired 10 years ago and had since made his home at Houghton Lake. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Houghton Lake post of American Legion. Surviving are his widow; one son, Harvey Jr., of Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Chegar, Detroit; three grandchildren; and a brother, Charles, of Davisburg. Officers said the Gliddens were struck by a car driven by Lawrence E. Bruce, of Lansing, at 8:55 p.m. Bruce was driving south, police reported, and neared the bridge at the same time another auto, driven by Richard Slaught, of Houghton Lake, approached from the north. There wasn't room for both cars on the narrow span without hitting the three pedestrians, officers said. Born in Smith Creek, Gladwin County, Oct. 1, 1888, she had spent most of her life in Beaverton. Mrs. Glidden was a member of the Dale and Billings Ladies Aids and the Beaverton Senior Citizens. The former Queen Oliver, she was married to Clarence Glidden in 1910 in Beaverton. He preceded her in death March 16, 1957. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vera McKimmy of Ludington; one brother, Jay Oliver of Beaverton; and 1 grandson; 6 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Mr. Glidden was born December 18, 1886 in Tobacco township, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Glidden. He operated a livery stable in Beaverton and was a veteran of World War I. At the time of his death he was employed by the Allen Moving Company in Flint. Henry Kreulen, of Bay City, officiating. Interment was in Dale cemetery. Mrs. Grant passed away Friday morning at her home in Beaverton, following a long illness. Aurah Early was born February 18, 1871, in Allen County, Ohio. In early youth she came with her parents to Barry County, Mich., near Woodland. There on October 17, 1891, she was married to U.S. Grant. Seven years later, in 1898, they came to Gladwin county, locating on a farm near Beaverton. Here they endured the hardships of pioneer life in clearing up a farm and building a home. Nine years ago, because of failing health, they left the farm and moved to Beaverton, where they have resided since. Last October the Grants celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Grant was a member of the Beaverton Presbyterian church and the Ladies Aid Society. She was a charter member of the Dale-Billings Aid Society and was always a faithful worker. Four children were born to them. Two, a daughter, Dorothy, and a son, Jess, preceded their mother in death. She is survived by her husband, U.S. Grant; a daughter, Mrs. Clifford Paxton, of Beaverton; and a son, Charles Grant, of London, Ontario; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. J. Grant, 85, of Beaverton, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at home following a long illness. Born Sept. 9, 1915 in Beaverton, he was the son of John F. and Josephine (Leeth) Grant. He lived in Gladwin County most of his life. Jake married Marie Wagner, May 29, 1942 in Paradise, Ohio. He was a truck mechanic for Robinson Industries, retiring in 1972 after 28 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Grant was born Jan. 1, 1895, in Woodland, Barry county, Michigan, and, died Feb. 7, 1925, at Saginaw Genral hospital, from peritonitis, aged 30 years, 1 month and 6 days. He was united in marriage to Leone Henry, July 22, 1922, and to this union were born two sons, Clyde, 23 months old, and Claud, 7 months old. Besides a wife and two sons he leaves to mourn a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. U.S. Grant, a brother Charles, and sister, Mrs. Clifton Paxton, and many relatives and friends. Mr. Grant was a member of the A.E.F. and served overseas 10 months in the 85th division. He was a highly respected neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Anna “Rosalie” Greene was born August 11, 1921, in Lawrence County, Illinois. Her parents, Dewey D. Gerhart and Lora (Norton) Gerhart preceded her in death, as did one brother, Dewey Gerhart, Jr., and one sister, Ida DeWitt. Rosalie graduated from Beaverton High School and married the class president/captain of the football team, Thomas D. Bergman, a lifelong resident of Beaverton. They were married for 32 years and had three children together. He preceded her in death in 1972. Rosalie married Lowell “Dale” Greene in 1979, and lived in Mount Pleasant. They were married for 19 years. He preceded her in death in 1998. Rosalie then moved to Midland and lived there for four years, and just recently moved to Gladwin, Michigan, to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Rosalie is survived by her three children, Gary R. (Valerie) Bergman of Midland; David G. (Elizabeth) Bergman of Mount Pleasant; and Cathryn S. (Harry) Geweniger of Gladwin. She has four grandchildren, Jeffrey T. (Carmie) Bergman of Indianapolis, Indiana; Cheryl Bergman of Farmington Hills; David Bergman of Monroe; and Daniel (Lisa) Bergman of Mount Pleasant. She also has five wonderful great-grandchildren. GRUBER Mrs. Hazel Gruber, 65, passed away at her home in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday, Feb 14, following a six months illness. The daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. John L. McKimmy, she was born July 28, 1894, at Blissfield. Mrs. Gruber came to Beaverton with her parents in 1902 and spent most her life here. She was married to John Gruber January 10, 1923. Cora Minerva Baser was born October 8, 1867 at Corunna and died at her home in Dale, October 16, 1941. To her marriage to Ira Guernsey five children were born, one daughter, Ellen preceding her in death at the age of 18 months. Mr. and Mrs. Guernsey have been residents of Gladwin county since 1903, when they came here from Lenawee county. Surviving her are her husband, two sons, Clarence LeRoy of Beaverton, Clement Terrence of Gladwin and two daughters Vertie Mae of Flint and Grace Edna of Midland, a brother, Delbert C. Baser of Sanford and a number of grand-children. Rev. Howard McDonald of Beaverton gave the prayer at the house and George Huber officiated at the church services. Burial was in Dale cemetery. Born Oct. 17, 1901, she resided at her home on Guernsey Rd. for more than 67 years before leaving it only recently to enter the Clare Nursing Home. Mrs. Guernsey served many years in township government as clerk. She taught school in Gladwin, Isabella and Midland counties and retired from Coleman Community Schools in 1968. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church. The former Gladys Denzer married Roy Guernsey June 3, 1921. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1960. H'S PATRICK EDWARD HAINES (26 FEB 1969 - 11 NOV 1984) GLADWIN YOUTH FATALLY HURT IN CAR - PEDESTRIAN MISHAP Investigation is continuing into the death of a 15-year-old Gladwin youth who was struck by a car on S. M-18 Saturday night after running into the road. Patrick Haines, a Gladwin High School sophomore, was attending a wedding reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 751 S. M-18 about 11:54 p.m. Saturday when he ran into the road, said Gladwin Sheriff's officers. The youth was struck by a car driven by Gary D. Hawks Jr., 16, of Beaverton. Deputies said Hawks, who was heading south, was unable to avoid hitting Haines. The victim was taken to the Gladwin Area Hospital where, he was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Hawks and a passenger, a 16-year-old Beaverton girl who was not identified, were treated for minor injuries at Gladwin Hospital and released. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Gladwin State Police and Beaverton and Gladwin City Police. The accident remains under investigation and officers say they do not know why Haines ran into the roadway. Haines is the eighth traffic fatality of the year in the county. Violet Boals was born in Perry County, Ohio on June 24, 1859 and was later married to Roland Hardgrove, who died in March, 1934. The family have lived in Beaverton or vicinity for the past 45 years. Todd A. Hartner of 5535 S. M-18, was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. at the Gladwin Area Hospital after measures to revive the child failed, according to Gladwin Sheriff's officers. Deputies reported the child was playing by the pool when his father, Max C. Hartner, turned and walked to a shed thinking his son was following him. The boy was submerged about five minutes before mouth to mouth resusitation was attempted officers said. He was employed by Robinson Industries until retiring in 1975 after 25 years. He also farmed. Harvey, 93, of Gladwin died May 21, 2005 at home following a short illness. He was born in Berry County on Sept. 2, 1911 to James and Matilda (Childs) Harvey. He married the former Florence Peters in Angola, Indiana on Jan. 2, 1937. He was a self-employed farmer. He lived in Gladwin County since 1946 having previously resided in Vermontville. Surviving are his wife, Florence Harvey of Gladwin; his daughter, Sharon (Richard) Walters of Grand Blanc; his grandchildren, Scott (Dawnn) Walters of Burton, and Rebecca Walters of Grand Blanc; his Great-grandchildren, Derek Walters and Gabriel Walters, both of Grand Blanc, and Jordan Walters and Payton Walters, both of Burton; and his sister, Margie “Dollie” Joppie of Vermontville. LILLIE MAY HATFIELD (1898 - 1946) SELDEN C. HATFIELD (9 JUNE 1896 - 3 FEB 1974) Selden C. (Slim) Hatfield, 77, of Gladwin, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 3, at his home on South Antler Street. Born in Michigan on June 9, 1896, he came to Gladwin County in 1937, from Morrice. Mr. Hatfield was a self-employed carpenter and retired 10 years ago. He was married to the former Elizabeth Compton on Nov. 6, 1949, in Beaverton. A 15-year-old Beaverton High School sophomore was killed and a companion injured Monday afternoon when the snowmobile sled they were riding in was struck by a car on the Lockwood Road in Billings Township. Fatally injured was Richard Hickerson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hickerson, of Lakeview Drive. Injured in the mishap and a patient in the Midland Hospital is Glen MacIntyre, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ean D. MacIntyre, of Farmington. Hospital authorities said MacIntyre sustained a skull fracture, a broken left leg and facial lacerations. His condition was listed as fair, they said. Hickerson and MacIntyre were passengers in the sled with MacIntyre's brother, Bruce, 13, who was shaken up in the mishap. The sled was being pulled behind a snowmobile operated by Hickerson's brother, Denny, 14. Also riding on the snowmobile was Vic Vargo; 16 of Flint. Both escaped injury, Gladwin sheriff's officers said. The accident occurred on a blind curve on the Lockwood Road about 3:30 p.m. The youths were traveling on the wrong side of the road when the car, operated by Donald C. Loose, 56, of Midland, came around the curve, officers reported. Hickerson pulled to the right but was unable to get the sled out of the way in time, they reported. The car struck the left side of the sled throwing they youths out. Officers said there was no negligence on the part of Loose who was traveling in his own lane at 25 miles per hour or less. HITCHCOCK (16 OCT 1943 – 18 APRIL 1965) BEAVERTON MAN DIES IN CRASH A 21-year-old Beaverton man was killed and three others injured in a two-car accident on M-30 Sunday night. Michael R. Hitchcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hitchcock, of Rt. 1, Beaverton, died when he received a fractured neck in the mishap. The fatality was the second in two days in the county and occurred within a half-mile of where a Marlett woman was killed Saturday nigt. Investigating officers said the mishap happened about 11:30 p.m. just north of the Sun Oil Road. Riding with Hitchcock was James Seckman, 22, of Rt. 1, Beaverton. He is in the Gladwin Hospital with facial lacerations and a shoulder injury, hospital authorities said. Driving the second car was Ralph C. Coats, 20, of Rt. 3, Gladwin. He received minor lacerations. His passenger, Loyd Davis, 22, of Gladwin, was treated for facial lacerations and bruises, authorities said. Officers said the cars were traveling north when Coats' car struck Hitchcock's car in the rear causing the accident. HUGHES Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dale Methodist Church for Joseph Robert Hughes, 84, who died Thursday at the Bad Axe General Hospital. The Rev. Donald Sailor, of the Beaverton and Dale Methodist Churches, officiated at the services and burial was in the Dale cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was born on August 8, 1859, in London, Ontario. With his wife and family he moved to Tobacco township about 50 years ago. He worked as an engineer in the saw mills near Beaverton for many years and in later years served as an engineer in several factories. Mrs. Hughes died about 16 years ago. Although Mr. Hughes had lived with his daughters in Detroit, Bad Axe and Bay City in recent years, he still claimed Tobacco township as his home. She was born April 20, 1930 to Herman and Laura Mitchell in Midland. She married Jerry Hughes on Aug. 20, 1950 and they moved to Goodrich in 1955. She worked at Goodrich Schools Food Services from 1964 to 1989 when sheretired. She was very active with the Goodrich United Methodist Church and Goodrich Country Club. Joyce's love for her family and God was the center coreof her life. She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed golfing and traveling with her husband and shopping, especially with her sister. She will be deeply missed by many people, especially her family. Joyce's death h as left a huge void in our lives, but her life has filled our hearts with so many wonderful memories, her love will see us through. He was a son of Joseph and Isetta Hughes and was born in the above township May 30, 1896. He was married October 16, 1915, to Clara V. McKimmy. To this union were born eight children. He married the former Etta Jean Elzay in Beaverton. While serving in the United States Air Force during World War II, he was shot down and was missing in action for a period of time. He helped organize the Gladwin County Veterans Affairs Office and operated it from 1970 to 1991, and enjoyed working with the veterans. He was born in Jeddo, Michigan on July 7, 1913 to the late Frank Albert and Geneieve (Robison) Hund, the second of eight children. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He retired from the Dow Chemical Company in Midland after 34 years of service. He was a member of the C.C.C. camp #116 of Alba, Michigan. He had a life long interest in tractor/auto repair and farming. He enjoyed country music, dancing, traveling and fishing. He was preceded in death by brothers Lawrence and Douglas Hund; sisters Wava Bailer, Caroline Stillwagon and Piccola Brown; son-in-law Bert L. Dicken; and three grandchildren. He preceded her in death in 1951. She then married Stanley Hunter in October 1957. He preceded her in death in 1969. The Rev. Aaron Hyde officiated and burial was in the Dale Cemetery. Born in Tobacco Township on August 17, 1884, he lived most of his lifetime in Gladwin County. He worked for the Detroit Street Railway and the State Highway for many years, and served one term as Gladwin County clerk, 1913-1916. He was a member of Gladwin F. & A. M. Lodge No. 397. HUNTER Sarah L.., wife of Wellington W. Hunter of Tobacco township, died Nov. 2, 1923, at the Saginaw General hospital, to which she had been taken a few days previous, after several weeks illness with rheumatic complications, aged 60 years, 1 month and 5 days. Sarah L. Kennedy was born in Frontenac county, Ontario, Sept. 27, 1863, and moved to Essexville, Mich., with her parents when one year of age, and from there to Midland county. She was married to Wellington W. Hunter Nov. 15, 1882. To this union were born a son, David William; and a daughter, Susie Irene, now Mrs. J. W. Myers, who with the husband survive to mourn their loss. She also leaves two grandchildren, Virginia and Maxine Myers, a brother, George Kennedy of Dundee, Oregon; and one sister, Mrs. John Morton of Detroit, besides a large circle of friends by whom she was held in high esteem. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter were among the pioneers of Tobacco township, where they have lived on the same farm since they were married, except four years residence in Gladwin when Mr. Hunter was county treasurer. Funeral services were held at the farm home Monday at 1 p.m. and from there the body was taken to the Dale church, which was filled by old neighbors to pay their last token of respect to the departed. A number of members of White Clover chapter O.E.S., Gladwin, of which she was a member, were in attendance. A large number of floral offerings covered the casket. Burial took place in the Dale cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. A. J. Preston of Beaverton, and a Beaverton choir sang. The pallbearers were Andrew and Will Snyder, M. L. Kent, C. D. HUNTER DIES EXPIRES AT THE HOUSE OF HIS DAUGHTE IN SAGINAW Walter Wellington Hunter, a resident of Tobacco township, died Tuesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Myers, 3331 South Washington avenue, Saginaw. Mr. Hunter has been in poor health for several weeks, and was first taken with a stroke at his farm home in Tobacco township. He was 72 years, 5 months and 3 days old. Funeral services will be held at 2'clock at the Dale church, Friday afternoon. Mr. Hunter was one of the pioneers of Tobacco township, coming there in the 70's. He was for many years prominent in the affairs of Tobacco township, and looked upon as one of its most substantial citizens. He served as supervisor, and from 1902 to 1906 county treasurer. He had many friends in all parts of the county, and the writer feels a keen sense of personal loss in his passing, severing as it does, a friendship of many years duration. Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. Myers and his son David W. Hunter, formerly county clerk, and two sisters, Miss Minnie Hunter and Mrs. Adelia Nolan, his wife having preceded him in death a few years since.
