The community near Dundas Corners in Tobacco township was electrified by the suicide Thursday of the wife of Clay Arnce. While returning for a call on the neighbors, and in the best of spirits, Marguerite Wynonah Arnce deliberately shot herself through the heart with a 22-revolver that she had picked up from the window sill of her stepson's bedroom. Just before she fired the fatal shot she called the attention of her husband, requesting him to watch her. She had prepared a letter in which she acknowledge premeditated suicide, giving unhappiness as the reason. Death from the shot was almost instantaneous. She was married in 1907, when only 14, to Henry Clay Arnce, a one armed soldier of 65. She leaves a daughter one year old. The subject of the sad affair was born in Owosso, Aug. 24, 1893, and moved to Gladwin with her parents in 1895, and has since resided in Tobacco township. Besides husband and child her mother and one brother survive. Her maiden name was Stockford. Dr. F. S. Pierce, coroner, arrived on the scene in half an hour after the shot to find life extinct, and together with David Reymore, Philip Ottgen, William Quellet, William Berger, William Pary and William Woodby, jurors, held an inquest, and after hearing the testimony of several witnesses arrived at a verdict of voluntary suicide. Funeral was held Saturday in Tobacco town hall, followed by interment in Dale cemetery. About a year ago. Mrs. Arnce attempted suicide with carbolic acid, but was saved by prompt medical action.
