The gun slipped, his hands and head received the charge, and he died Monday. Funeral today. Gladwin County Record dated 09-22/1910 Colum - 5 Page - 1 Jay A. Bender who died in Tobacco, Sept. 19, from effects of accidental discharge of a gun, was born Nov. 9, 1894, at Garrett, Ind. He had been a resident of the county only two weeks, coming from Grayling. He was a son of James and Nancy Bender, and his parents, three brothers and two sisters survive. He had been a member of the Baptist church two years. The accident took place at 12:30 Sunday and death followed at 1:00 p.m. Monday the 19th. Funeral was conducted by Rev. McKimmy, Sept. 22, at the residence. Mr. and Mrs. Bender extend thanks to many friends for kindness shown during their affliction.
