S. and Sarah E. Bergman was born near Williamstown, Ohio, February 16, 1891 and departed this life, after a two weeks illness, January 14, 1939. When a small boy he came with his parents to Michigan, locating in Barry County, later moving to Gladwin County, locating near the Dundas Corners. He attended the rural school and Beaverton High school, later taking a short normal course at Ferris Institute, Big Rapids. He taught a rural school for a time. In early manhood he was converted and became a member of the Church of the Brethren, to which faith he remained loyal to the end. On December 24, 1914, he was united in marriage with Sadie Kitchen of this city. They made their home here until 1924 when they moved to Detroit and later to Flint where they remained until July, 1937. After a Short residence at Vassar they returned to their home in this city in May of last year. Carl was a consistent Christian, ever true to his conviction and to the light as he saw it. He was a kind, affectionate son and brother, a devoted husband and a friend to all with whom he came in contact. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his oldest brother, Berl, the latter just six weeks ago. Left to mourn are his wife, two brothers, Laurence of this city and Ralph of Midland county, three sisters, Mrs. Chloe Fairchild of Detroit, Mrs. Laura Quelet and Mrs. Nora Mishler of this city, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will miss him. Funeral services were held at the Beaverton M. E. Church at 2 p.m., January 17, conducted by Rev. Harold Hodgson. Interment in Dale Cemetery. "Blessed are the dead; who die in the Lord."
