CRASH INJURIES FATAL TO BEAVERTON YOUTH

   An 18 year-old Beaverton Township man died Sunday in the Midland Hospital 
of injuries sustained a car-truck collision Friday afternoon. Sheriff Walter 
Scott said Bruce J. Betz of McCulloch Road, was taken to the Midland Hospital 
wit h his injuries following the crash at the corner of M-18 and Dale Rd, 
south of Beaverton about 2 p.m. Friday. Betz, a June graduate of Beaverton 
High School, was traveling south on M-18 and turned left in front of a small 
Total Leonard tank truck driven by Theodore R. Crawford of Mt. Pleasant, 
deputies said. 
  Crawford told investigating officers he was unable to stop in time to avoid 
hitting Betz's car almost broadside. A witness also collaborated Crawford's 
statement, they said. Betz is the second traffic fatality in the county in 
three weeks and the fourth this year. His obituary appears on page 2 of this

Bruce J. Betz, 18, of 5849 McCulloch Road, Beaverton Township, died Sunday, 
June 17, at Midland Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident 
Friday afternoon June 15. Born in Midland, March 25, 1955, he was a 1973 
graduate of the Beaverton High School in tool and die making and was employed 
at Homestead Tool & Machinery. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Betz, he was a 
lifetime resident of Gladwin County.
   Survivors, in addition to his parents, are a brother Michael; and a sister 
Rosemarie; and grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. (?) Chavez of of Albuquerque, N. M. 
Services will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton, 
with the Rev. Gordon Showers officiating. Burial will be in the Beaverton 
Cemetery.
