Bishop, 71, of Midland, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 after a long battle with lung disease. Born in Lansing on June 1, 1934, he was a 1953 graduate of Eastern High School. On December 25, 1955, Bob married Margaret Dale Rowley (formerly Wirt), with whom he recently celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary. In 1957 Bob went to work for Consumers Power Company as a Meter Reader. As the years went by his mechanical abilities began to shine and he advanced within the company. For many years Bob worked as a Residential Gas Serviceman and received many customer appreciation letters from homeowners. Working many a cold night, Bob never liked leaving a family without heat. In everything he did he was always concerned about the comfort of others even before his own. After 37 years of service, Bob retired in 1994 from the Midland office of Consumers Power Company (now known as Consumers Energy) as an Industrial Gas Serviceman. Even after his retirement, Dow Chemical and Consumers Power would call Bob for advice. He also did some job consulting work and some teaching in the gas service field. Always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, Bob was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor, even a bit on the 'smart-alecky' side. Family was always very important to Bob. When asked to describe him, his wife always says, "He's a good man." He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bishop; children: Janis (Tom) Pulka, Steven (Susan) Bishop, Christopher (Krista) Bishop and Matthew Bishop; step- son, Kenneth Rowley; half-brother Jim Withey; and numerous grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, George Bishop and Pearl Withey; and his brothers, Donald, Richard and Wayne. -SERVICE & VISITATION- A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W.
