Robert Blades was born in West Walton county, Norfolk, England; on March 26, 1864, the son of George P. and Elizabeth Blades. When he was two years of age they moved to the States, where they settled in Livingston county, Michigan. He married Miss Annie Judson and to them were born four children. Mrs. Blades died in 1900. In 1900 he moved to Gladwin county and bought the farm that has been his home ever since. He was elected supervisor of Tobacco township in 1922 and served several years in that capacity. He also served two years as township treasurer. Mr. Blades was Master of Dale Grange for many years and was Chief Gleaner of Dale Arbor of Gleaners. In 1907 he married Mrs. Maggie Parkinson and to them was born one child. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, George T., Earl R., and Percy, two daughters, Mrs. Ella May Denison of East Lansing and Mrs. Grace Crowell of Midland, twenty-seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three brothers, Charles of Lansing, Rutherford of Pontiac and Fred of Pinckney and four sisters, Lizzie Leverett of Lansing and Mary Carpenter, Eva Wines and Maude Gauss of Ann Arbor. Funeral services were held at the Dale M. E. Church, June 11, with Elder Pendleton officiating. Interment was in Dale Cemetery.
