Broka, 81, of Beaverton, died Monday, May 18, 1998 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home in Gladwin after a short illness. Born July 5, 1916 in Gladwin County, he was retired from the DPW in Beaverton, in 1981. George married the former Esther Derrick, May 18, 1947 in Beaverton. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and belonged to the VFW Post #7303. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Diane and husband Ralph Grimaldo of Beaverton; one son, Thomas and wife Joyce of Bay City; five sisters, Norma Jean and husband Roy Lasko of Midland, Clara and husband Palmer Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn., Marie and husband Virgil Clark of Charleston, Ill., Alma and husband Jim Clore of Gladwin, and Luella Broka of Beaverton; two brothers, Lloyd and wife Mary Jane of Gladwin, and Jim and wife Joy of Coleman; two sisters-in-law, Orrine Broka and Mildred Broka, both of Beaverton; four grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Harold; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Don Rousseau; and his parents, Daniel and Anna (Ashbrook) Broka. Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel, with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial was in Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton. Graveside services were by the VFW Post #7303. Memorial contributions may be made to Miracle Ranch Children's Home.
