Broka, 74, of 4247 S. M-18, Beaverton and retired Gladwin County Equalization director, died suddenly of a heart attack at the home of his daughter in Roscommon Friday, Feb. 10. Born in Paulding, Ohio, on April 4, 1909, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. Mr. Broka was a County Normal School teacher in the late 1920's; worked in the oil fields in the county for several independant drillers from the 1930's to 1967; and was county Equalization director form 1968 to 1978. He was a member of the Beaverton Masonic Lodge and Church of God, the board of directors of Chemical Bank, Gladwin County; Michigan Intermediate School Board; and was past president of the Gladwin Intermediate School District. Mr. Broka and the former Mildren Ankrom were married January 25, 1937, in Catlettbury, Ky. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Jack (Mary Jo) Holder of Adolphus, Ky. and Mrs. Mike (Donna) Colton of Roscommon; 4 brothers, Harold, George and Lloyd of Beaverton and Jim of Coleman; 6 sisters, Mrs. Alma Clore and Mrs. Helen Rousseau of Gladwin, Mrs. Norma Jean Lasko of Midland, Mrs. Marie Clark of Flint, Mrs. Clara Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn. and Luella Broka of Beaverton. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. Martin Ledwidge officiated and burial was in the Beaverton Cemetery.
