(JUNIOR) BRUSHABER, of Beaverton, went to be with his Savior Saturday, March 3, 2001 following a short illness, at his home with his wife, children, and all of his grandchildren at his side. Born Feb. 20, 1922 in Beaverton, where he lived all of his life, he was the son of John and Adeline (Neuman) Brushaber. He was employed by The Dow Chemical Company in Midland where he worked in the Saran Department, retiring in 1974 after 30 years. He also worked all his life on the family farm, where he still loved the land and continued to help his sons and grandson with the operation, until his illness last fall. He still lived on the property where he was born and was proud of the fact that it was proclaimed a “Centennial Farm” by the State of Michigan in 1997. He was also extremely proud of the fact that his grandson, Brad, had joined the operation and was the fourth generation to farm the property. John and his wife, Nancy, were inducted into the Farmer’s Hall of Fame in September 1998. John and Nancy enjoyed traveling, which included trips to Hawaii, Europe, South America, and Mexico, among other places. They also hosted several exchange students over the years. He attended church regularly, and took pleasure in several hobbies, including restoring many varied pieces of antique horse drawn equipment, which he sold to several area Amish farmers. He recently donated some to the West Branch Museum. John and Nancy were charter members of the Gladwin County Ice Carnival Association. They were also members of the Gladwin County Farm Bureau. John also sold seed corn for the DeKalb Company for 30 years, which gave him more opportunity to do one of his favorite pastimes, meeting people. However, John’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. John married the former Nancy Borton, April 15, 1944 in Beaverton. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis and wife Nancy and Dick and wife Lynda, all of Beaverton; four grandsons, Mark and wife Kelly Brushaber of Dearborn, John and wife Michelle Brushaber and Brad and wife Amy Brushaber, all of Beaverton, and Matt and wife Shannon Brushaber of Chesterfield Township; one granddaughter, Jay Lynn and husband John Pressler of Bay City; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Sam, Brenden, John Ryan, Adrianne, Brent, Ashleigh and Anna Brushaber, Amber McAllister, and Noah Pressler; two brothers, Charlie of Houghton Lake and Richard of Beaverton; one sister, Violet Neindorf of Wayne; and a special niece, Norma Smith of Livonia. He will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews and a multitude of friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Warren, Roy, and Lloyd; and one sister-in-law, Anne Hunter. The family is eternally grateful to the MidMichigan Hospice of Midland for their loving care and support during this very difficult time. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hall Funeral, Gladwin with Pastor Matt Place officiating. Burial was in the Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton. Memorials are requested for MidMichigan Hospice, Living Home Fellowship Church, or the Dale United Methodist Church.
