SERVICES FRIDAY FOR L. J. BUDGE

   Lauren J. Budge, well-known retired Beaverton businessman, died at his home 
in Beaverton this forenoon. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 
8 o'clock, in the Beaverton Presbyterian Church. Mr. Budge will be at the Hall 
Funeral Home until noon Friday. A complete obituary will be printed next week.

LAUREN BUDGE

   Funeral services for Lauren James Budge, 75-year-old retired Beaverton 
businessman and legislator and a pioneer in the tourist industry were held 
Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Beaverton Presbyterian church, with Dr. 
John Osborne, assisted by the Rev. Paul Mishler, officiating. Burial was in 
the Dale cemetery. Born in Lee, Maine, May 22, 1880, Mr. Budge died suddenly 
Wednesday morning at his home at 217 Knox street.
   A graduate of the Ferris Institute as a registered pharmacist in 1904, he 
opened the drug store that he owned and operated in Beaverton for nearly a 
half-century, that year. He retired after selling the store in 1942. One of 
the original members of the Northeastern Michigan Development bureau, he was 
named president of it in 1923, the year before its successor, the East 
Michigan Tourist Association was founded. Mr. Budge had served as president of 
the parent organization since, and was also active in the EMTA.
   He served for two years in the Army in World War I, being discharged with 
the rank of First Lieutenant. He was mayor for three terms, supervisor, city 
councilman, and city treasurer, and was one-time president of the Beaverton 
Board of Commerce. He was elected to the state legislature on the Republican 
ticket in 1926 from the Midland district, and represented the district for two 
terms at Lansing. He was a member of the Beaverton Masonic Lodge, O.E.S., and 
of the American Legion post, the DAV, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
   His survivors include his wife, E. Maude; two daughters, Mrs. Donald 
Darnell, of McBain, and Mrs. Loraine McVey, of Beaverton; five grandchildren; 
and two brothers, Dr. M. J. Budge, of Ithaca; and Walter, of Coleman.
