Clarence Carpenter, 74, of Tobacco Township, died Tuesday, April 27, at the 
Gladwin Nursing Home following a long illness. Born in Defiance, Ohio, on June 
2, 1901, he had lived in Gladwin County for 70 years. Mr. Carpenter was a 
retired farmer and a member of the Beaverton Church of the Brethren. He 
married the former Mary Rau on February 17, 1929, in Beaverton. She preceded 
him in death on November 13, 1968.
   Surviving are one son, Edward of Beaverton; one daughter, Mrs. Joyce 
Laviolette of Brant; and nine grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at 
2 p.m. from the Beaverton Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Henry List will 
officiate and burial will be in the Dale Cemetery. Mr. Carpenter is in state 
at the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton chapel.
