Cook, 93, of Beaverton, died June 12, 1998 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home after a long illness. Born June 7, 1905 in Evart, she lived in Gladwin County since 1985, and previously lived in Pontiac. She was a kitchen supervisor at the State Hospital in Kalamazoo, retiring in 1967. She was also a member of the Beaverton Church of the Nazerene. Vera married Otis Cook, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Surviving are two sons, Daniel Sturgis of Beaverton, and Charles Sturgis of Texas; four daughters, Naomi Fagg of Gladwin, Bernita Hall of Lansing, Vera Motter of Kalamazoo, and Linda Hall of Arizona; one brother, Charles Hayward of Pontiac; three sisters, Leitha Wirt, Christine Ballard, and Maxine Carlyle, all of Pontiac; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Leona Marshall, April 2, 1993, and five brothers and sisters. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel, with Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Burial was in Tobacco (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaverton Church of the Nazerene.
