Burial was made in the Dale cemetery following services at the Hall Funeral Home at which Rev. E. S. Hollinger, of the Brethren Church, officiated. Mr. DeVenny was walking along M-18 north of Beaverton in a heavy snowfall when he was hit by a car driven by Dick D. Childs, 20, of Grenieer Field, Manchester, N. H. In a statements to investigating officers, Childs said that he was momentarily blinded by the lights of an approaching vehicle in the heavy snow fall. He said he applied his brakes when he saw the pedestrian in his headlights, but was unable to stop in time to avoid striking DeVenny. Childs, a soldier on leave, was releashed after making his statement to Sheriff Arthur Kelly and State Troopers Edsel Duvall and John Ryan of the Bay City post. Coroner Lewis Reigle said that head injuries caused DeVenny's death and that he also suffered compound fractures of both legs and a broken right arm. Mr. Devenny was born Oct. 8, 1888 in Meigs county, Ohio, and had been a resident of Gladwin county for 27 years. More familiary known as "Jerry" he was a carpenter by trade. Mrs. DeVenny died 12 years ago. He is survived by his son, George of Beaverton, and one grandson.
