EX-BEAVERTON MAN VICTIM OF CAR ON BRIDGE

   Funeral services for Harvey K. Glidden, 65, a former Beaverton resident, 
were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home. Burial was in Dale 
Cemetery. Elder James Cunnington, of Lansing, officiated at the rites.
   Mr. Glidden was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a car while fishing 
off a bridge over the Muskegon River in Roscommon County. Police said Glidden, 
his son, Harvey Jr., 26, and daughter-in-law, Evelyn, 19, were all struck at 
the same time. The young couple was taken to Mercy Hospital, Grayling with 
fractures and back injuries, police reported.
   Mr. Glidden was born in Tobacco Township, Aug. 26, 1896, and was married to 
Marie Szatkowski in Bad Axe, June 30, 1920. A commercial photographer in 
Detroit, he retired 10 years ago and had since made his home at Houghton Lake. 
He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Houghton Lake post of 
American Legion.
   Surviving are his widow; one son, Harvey Jr., of Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. 
Jean Chegar, Detroit; three grandchildren; and a brother, Charles, of 
Davisburg. Officers said the Gliddens were struck by a car driven by Lawrence 
E. Bruce, of Lansing, at 8:55 p.m. Bruce was driving south, police reported, 
and neared the bridge at the same time another auto, driven by Richard 
Slaught, of Houghton Lake, approached from the north. There wasn't room for 
both cars on the narrow span without hitting the three pedestrians, officers 
said.
