Funeral services for Mrs. U.S. Grant, 81, of Beaverton, were conducted Sunday, 
May 11 at 2 p.m. from the Dale Methodist church with the Rev. Henry Kreulen, 
of Bay City, officiating. Interment was in Dale cemetery. Mrs. Grant passed 
away Friday morning at her home in Beaverton, following a long illness. Aurah 
Early was born February 18, 1871, in Allen County, Ohio. In early youth she 
came with her parents to Barry County, Mich., near Woodland. There on October 
17, 1891, she was married to U.S. Grant. Seven years later, in 1898, they came 
to Gladwin county, locating on a farm near Beaverton. Here they endured the 
hardships of pioneer life in clearing up a farm and building a home. Nine 
years ago, because of failing health, they left the farm and moved to 
Beaverton, where they have resided since. Last October the Grants celebrated 
their 60th wedding anniversary.
   Mrs. Grant was a member of the Beaverton Presbyterian church and the Ladies 
Aid Society. She was a charter member of the Dale-Billings Aid Society and was 
always a faithful worker. Four children were born to them. Two, a daughter, 
Dorothy, and a son, Jess, preceded their mother in death. She is survived by 
her husband, U.S. Grant; a daughter, Mrs. Clifford Paxton, of Beaverton; and a 
son, Charles Grant, of London, Ontario; eight grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Werking of Lima, Ohio. Miss Ica Early 
of Peru, Indiana, and Mrs. Grace Potter, of Battle Creek; two brothers, Ira 
Early of Mt. Dora, Florida and C.D. Early, of Bellvue.
