WIFE HELD IN SLAYING OF HUSBAND FRIDAY

   Mrs. Gertrude Greenacre, 49, of Beaverton, is being held in the Gladwin 
County jail without bond following the shooting of her husband, Lee H. 
Greenacre, 52 early Friday morning at their home at 4852 W. Lang Road. She was 
arraigned on a first degree murder charge before District Court Judge Jon 
Ringelberg Monday and demanded a preliminary examination. The examination has 
been set for Wednesday, Oct. 7. 
   Mrs. Greenacre is charged with shooting her husband about 2:00 a.m. Friday 
morning, Sheriff Walter Scott said. Scott said his department received a call 
from the Bay City State Police Post at 2:12 a.m. asking them to send an 
ambulance to the Greenacre residence that Mrs. Greenacre had called them and 
said she had shot her husband.
   A patrol car was sent with the ambulance to guide it in the fog, the 
sheriff said. About that time Mrs. Greenacre called the sheriff's department 
and reported the shooting and said she believed her husband was dead. When the 
ambulance and patrol car arrived at the scene at 2:23 a.m. they found 
Greenacre laying between his pickup and a car, he said. 
   Coroner Mathews pronounced him dead. Officers quoted Mrs. Greenacre as 
saying that when her husband, arrived home about 2 a.m. she told him she was 
going to shoot him and he replied go ahead. Greenacre was felled by a charge 
from a .410 single shot shotgun. The 71/2 size load hit him in the chest and 
was fired from 27 feet away, Sheriff Scott said.
   An autopsy was performed Friday morning. Death was caused by internal 
bleeding from pellete that had hit the victim's heart, Mathews said.
