Gladys Guernsey, 93, and a long-time resident of Beaverton, died Thursday, 
Jan. 12, 1995 at the Clare Nursing Home after a 7-month residency there. Born 
Oct. 17, 1901, she resided at her home on Guernsey Rd. for more than 67 years 
before leaving it only recently to enter the Clare Nursing Home. Mrs. Guernsey 
served many years in township government as clerk. She taught school in 
Gladwin, Isabella and Midland counties and retired from Coleman Community 
Schools in 1968. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher at the 
Gladwin Free Methodist Church. The former Gladys Denzer married Roy Guernsey 
June 3, 1921. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1960.
   Surviving are 4 daughters, Verta (Billie) and husband John Tolly of Niles, 
Wilda and husband George Rowley of Gladwin, Coralee and husband Frank Foster 
of Beaverton, and Bonnie and husband James Tolly of Beaverton; one son, Max 
and wife Shirley of Beaverton; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 
numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gertrude 
Weiman and Nina Hockaday; one granddaughter, Jeannine Tolly Klassen; one 
grandson, John Rogers Tolly; and 2 great-grandsons, Christopher Tolly and 
Christopher Harrell.
   Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Gladwin Free Methodist Church 
with the Rev. Robert Marshall officiating. Burial was in the Tobacco Township 
Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the 
Gideons or the Gladwin Free Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled by the 
Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin.
