M-18 Saturday night after running into the road. Patrick Haines, a Gladwin High School sophomore, was attending a wedding reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 751 S. M-18 about 11:54 p.m. Saturday when he ran into the road, said Gladwin Sheriff's officers. The youth was struck by a car driven by Gary D. Hawks Jr., 16, of Beaverton. Deputies said Hawks, who was heading south, was unable to avoid hitting Haines. The victim was taken to the Gladwin Area Hospital where, he was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Hawks and a passenger, a 16-year-old Beaverton girl who was not identified, were treated for minor injuries at Gladwin Hospital and released. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Gladwin State Police and Beaverton and Gladwin City Police. The accident remains under investigation and officers say they do not know why Haines ran into the roadway. Haines is the eighth traffic fatality of the year in the county. Gladwin County Record dated 11-14/1984 Colunn - 1 Page - 1 PATRICK HAINES Patrick Edward Haines, 15, of 5448 Riverview Dr., Gladwin, died Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Gladwin Area Hospital of injuries sustained in an automobile pedestrian accident Saturday night. Born in Flint on Feb. 26, 1969, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. He was a sophomore at Gladwin High School. Surviving are his parents, Michael and Carolyn Haines; a twin brother, Michael, at home; 3 sisters, Tammy, Tracy and Talitha, at home; grandparents, Mrs. Daisy Pratt and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Haines of Gladwin; and great grandfather, Fred Haines of Gladwin. Services were held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Louie Galaway officiated and burial was in the Dale Cemetery.
