GEORGE WHITE HAINES

Pioneer Resident passes away

George White Haines was born at Chatham, Canada, Oct. 16,  1843, and departed 
this life May  8,  1920 being at the time of his death  77  years, 6 months 
and 17 days of age. He was united in marriage to Tryhena McCrury in 1862. To 
this union were born five children. Mr. Haines came to Gladwin about 48 years 
ago and purchased a piece of wild land in Grout township which he cleared and
made made his home until his death.  He was always a hard working working an ,a
kind and loving husband and father. He was converted in the United Brethren 
church about 40 years ago and has been a true christian since. Mr Haines had 
been in poor health for the past two or three years, suffering from heart 
trouble which caused his death. He leaves to mourn his departure, one brother 
of Clare and two sisters, Susan Page and Minnie Fields of Gladwin. three half-
brothers ,Alfred Emery of Gladwin, the rest unknown, five children, Frank 
Haines, Mrs. Grace Gedney, Mrs. Lavina Ballard and Mrs. Bertha Mills of 
Gladwin and Mrs. Olive Wylie of Detroit, 26 grandchildren  and 13 great grand-
children and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Free 
Methodist church in Gladwin Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by  
Rev. Cross and the body was laid to rest in Highland cemetery beside his wife, 
whose death occured April 28, five days preceding his.


Additional Comments:
In this obituary the last name of McCrury is misspelled.  McCreary or McCreery 
are the correct spellings.
