Hamm Sr., 87, of the Beaverton Manor, died Friday, Jan. 6, in the Clare Nursing Home following a long illness. Born in Edwardsville, Ill., on December 19, 1896, he came to Gladwin County six years ago from Portsmith, Ohio. He was a self-employed painter and a member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge 48 in Portsmouth. Mr. Hamm and the former Shirley Sharp were married in 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, William Jr. of Portsmouth and James of Beaverton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Rose) Stoike of Beaverton, and Mrs. Melvin (Shirley) Prior of Portsmouth; 2 brothers, Charles and Harry of Cleveland; 3 sisters, Mrs. Mary Mauch, Mrs. Pearl Etterman and Mrs. Louise Sponholz of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton chapel. The Rev. Aeron Davies officiated and burial was in the Beaverton Cemetery. A Masonic Memorial Service was held Sunday at the funeral home...
