John Raymond Hammond, 62, 15835 Rossini Dr., Detroit, died Friday, Oct. 22, in 
Saratoga General Hospital following a long illness. Born in Paducah, Ky., on 
March 26, 1920, he had spent his lifetime in Detroit. He was a mailer for the 
Detroit News for 45 years until retiring in June. Mr. Hammond was married to 
the former Berniece Browder on June 23, 1946, in Detroit. 
   Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Raymond of Detroit; 2 
daughters, Mrs. Sandra Hoxie and Mrs. Diane Childress of Armanda; his mother, 
Mrs. Elsie Purvis of All-Bright Shores; and 9 grandchildren. Rites were held 
Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. Dana 
Lane officiated and burial was in the Billings Cemetery.
