(Slim) Hatfield, 77, of Gladwin, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 3, at his home on South Antler Street. Born in Michigan on June 9, 1896, he came to Gladwin County in 1937, from Morrice. Mr. Hatfield was a self-employed carpenter and retired 10 years ago. He was married to the former Elizabeth Compton on Nov. 6, 1949, in Beaverton. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Wesley of Beaverton and Mrs. Audrey Searson of Sanford; one son, Albert Hatfield of Perry; two step-children, Mrs. Betsey Bissell of Campbell, Calif. and Joseph Betts of Haslett; one sister, Mrs. Berniece Townsend of Morrice; and 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Byron Hatch officiated and burial was in the Dale Cemetery, Beaverton.
