Heslop, 49, died Sunday morning following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services are being held today (Wednesday) at 2:30 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home. The Rev. Everett Love, of the Gladwin Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Beaverton cemetery. Mr. Heslop was born in Edenville April 3, 1908. With his parents, he moved to Beaverton, where his father, Dr. J. C. Heslop, practiced medicine. A graduate of the Beaverton high school, he came to Gladwin 28 years ago and was employed as a movie projectionist. He was appointed acting postmaster, April 1, 1934 by President Roosevelt and received his permanent appointment the following year. He has served in the position continuously since. Mr. Heslop was well-known throughout the county because of his active participation in the fight against polio and served for many years as county chairman of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, a post he still held at the time of his death. He was married July 9, 1951 to the former Leoma Ward in Spartonburg, S.C. Surviving are his wife; two sons, James L. Heslop Jr., of Houston, Tex., and Patrick, of Gladwin; three daughters, Mary Lee of Houston, Linda and Pamela, at home; two brothers, William of Gladwin, and Bruce of Baltimore, Md.; and two sisters, Mrs. K. H. McCullough, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Mrs. Iva Sanborn, of Beaverton.
