DR. HESLOP PASSES AWAY

SUCCUMBS IN SAGINAW GENERAL HOSPITAL AFTER OPERATION.

   Funeral services for Dr. J. E. Heslop, 70, who died in General hospital, 
Saginaw, Friday morning, after an operation, were held in Beaverton Sunday 
with Rev. Hoover officiating. The services were conducted by the Masonic Order 
and the American Legion. It was estimated to be the largest funeral ever held 
in this locality. Dr. Heslop had practiced medicine in Michigan since 1887 and 
it is said he never refused to give professional aid, no matter how destitute 
the patient, or whether the call came at night or day. He made many friends 
wherever he went and the community misses him sorely.
   John Elmer Heslop was born of John and Mary Heslop April 15, 1863, in 
Lancaster, Ont. His father having died when he was an infant, his mother 
married Johnathan Ellis who became a most kind and loving father, educating 
and aiding in time of trouble as any own father could do. He resided in Port 
Dover with his nine brothers and sisters until matriculation into Queens 
University, Kingston, Ont. Graduating in 1887, he became superintendent of a 
hospital for the Delta Lumber Company in the upper peninsula of Michigan, 
where he united in marriage Feb. 24, 1890, to Palma Gaumont. To this union 
were born 10 children. IN 1899 he went to Bay City as ship yard's physician 
and doctor for Handy Bros. mine. When the ship yard discontinued, about 30 
years ago, he came to this locality as a general practicioner, where he has 
always resided, with the exception of the period he served as surgeon in the 
World war.
   He is survived by four brothers, two sisters, his wife, two daughters, Mrs. 
Fred C. Sanborn of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. K. D. McCullough of Butler, Pa., four 
sons, William, Bruce and Ellis of Beaverton and James of Gladwin, and eight 
grandchildren.
