Hicks, 55, former Beaverton Intermediate School principal, died Tuesday evening in the Midland Hospital following a long illness. Born in Kingsley on July 24, 1913, he came to Gladwin County 10 years ago from Freeland and was Intermediate School principal until illness forced his retirement the first of August. Mr. Hicks was active in community and Boy Scout work an dwas a member of the Michigan Secondary Principals Association and past president of the Beaverton Lions Club. He was married to the former Ruth Sager on July 2, 1935, in Spring Arbor. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Pritchard of Mt. Morris; two sons, Gerald of Beaverton and Steven at home; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ann Miller of Freeland, Mrs. Linda Burr of Middleton and Peggy at home; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gallup, Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Mabel Voller of Spring Arbor and Mrs. Velma Burt of Lansing; and eight grandchildren. Private services will be held Friday at the Miner Funeral Home. The Rev. A. H. Keesler will officiate and burial willl be in the Beaverton Cemetey. Members of the family will be at the funeral home from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A memorial has been established to buy books for the Beaverton Intermediate School library.
