Michael R. Hitchcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hitchcock, of Rt. 1, Beaverton, died when he received a fractured neck in the mishap. The fatality was the second in two days in the county and occurred within a half-mile of where a Marlett woman was killed Saturday nigt. Investigating officers said the mishap happened about 11:30 p.m. just north of the Sun Oil Road. Riding with Hitchcock was James Seckman, 22, of Rt. 1, Beaverton. He is in the Gladwin Hospital with facial lacerations and a shoulder injury, hospital authorities said. Driving the second car was Ralph C. Coats, 20, of Rt. 3, Gladwin. He received minor lacerations. His passenger, Loyd Davis, 22, of Gladwin, was treated for facial lacerations and bruises, authorities said. Officers said the cars were traveling north when Coats' car struck Hitchcock's car in the rear causing the accident. Services were held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. for Hitchcock from the Hall Funeral Home. Born in Pontiac on October 16, 1943, he had spent his lifetime in Gladwin County. A graduate of Beaverton High School in 1961 and from Michigan Technological University in 1964, he was employed as a tool engineer for Brown Machine Co. in Beaverton. Besides his parents he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Connie Lewis, of Albuquerque, N. M., Mrs. Barbara Ockerman, of Big Rapids; Mrs. Patricia Whiteman, of Beaverton, and Madonna at home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cash A. Carey, of Beaverton. The Rev. Aaron Hyde officiated and burial was in Dale Cemetery.
