Gladwin County Record
Helen Marie (Dicken) Hopkins passed away Jan. 10, 2004 peacefully at the age 
of 78. She was born March 11, 1925 at  the home of her grandparents Emma and 
Abraham Brubaker. Her proud parents were Leah and Earl Dicken of Beaverton. 
Helen was married in May of 1943 to Rexford P. Cox until his death on June 17, 
1981. She also married Roland Giesenhaver in May of 1985, he passed away May 
10, 1988. In April of 1996 she married Orland “Mike” Hopkins who also preceded 
her in death July 12, 2003. Helen’s hobbies were gardening, growing flowers, 
wild life, square dancing and enjoying her grandchildren and great 
grandchildren. 
   Helen and Rexford have four children, daughters, Connie (Sam) Mercer of 
Beaverton, Judy (Donald) Davis of Beaverton; son James Cox of Gladwin, Brian 
Cox of St. Clair Shores; step son Michael (Gloria) Hopkins of Sanford; two 
grandsons, Troy and Michael Mercer; five granddaughters, Robyn Thume, Amanda 
Paisley, Heidi Skym, Rebecca Kile, and Tamara Lough; 14 great grandchildren 
and brother Francis Dicken of Gladwin. In addition to her husbands, Helen was 
preceded in death by her Parents and brothers, Walter Stroman, Charles Dicken, 
Clarence “Bud” Dicken, and Thomas Dicken. 
   Funeral services will be held Jan. 14, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at  Hall Funeral 
Home, Gladwin with Rev. James Hoggard officiating. A burial will be in Arbutus 
Cemetery, Beaverton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of 
Daniels Band, Highwood.
