R. HUGHES Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dale Methodist Church for Joseph Robert Hughes, 84, who died Thursday at the Bad Axe General Hospital. The Rev. Donald Sailor, of the Beaverton and Dale Methodist Churches, officiated at the services and burial was in the Dale cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was born on August 8, 1859, in London, Ontario. With his wife and family he moved to Tobacco township about 50 years ago. He worked as an engineer in the saw mills near Beaverton for many years and in later years served as an engineer in several factories. Mrs. Hughes died about 16 years ago. Although Mr. Hughes had lived with his daughters in Detroit, Bad Axe and Bay City in recent years, he still claimed Tobacco township as his home. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Frances Austin, of Detroit, Mrs. Beatrice McKibbin, of Bad Axe, and Mrs. Sara Reymore, of Bay City; one son, John Hughes, of Detroit; one sister, Mrs. Marhew Dillon, of Owosso; one brother, William Hughes, of Flint; 19 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. Five of the grandchildren are serving with the U.S. Army and Navy.
