L. Johnson, 59, retired Beaverton insurance man, died Saturday afternoon at his home following a six-month illness. He was the son of the late Earl and Mary Johnson and was born May 21, 1893, in Cass county, Iowa. On March 23, 1915, he was married to Elizabeth B. Garver at Stanton, Michigan. Mr. Johnson came to Beaverton 20 years ago and for 13 years operated the hotel barber shop in addition to his insurance business. Late last fall, after 17 years in business, Mr. Johnson retired because of ill health. He was interested and active in civic and fraternal affairs. He served as president of the Beaverton Lions Club, was a member of the Beaverton F. & A.M. and O.E.S. and the Gladwin I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodge, the Royal Arch Masons of Farwell and the I.O.O.F. Encampment. He was a past chief patriach fo the Encampment, a member of the state and national association of insurance agents, the Gladwin Sportsman's Club, the Beaverton Business-men's Association, and of the Beaverton L.D.S. Church. He also acted as president fo the Beaverton P.T.A. for two years. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Willard of Royal Oak, and Wellington and Keith, of Ferndale; two daughters, Mrs. Elwood Larch of Marine, Ill., and Phila Mae at home; eight grandchildren; one brother, Charles W. Johnson, of Lancaster, Calif. and three step sisters, Mrs. Esther Baker of Creston, Ohio, Mrs. Luella Goodfellow, of Sparta, and Mrs. Ouida Norris fo Lake Odessa. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Hall Funeral Home with Elder Elmer Kintner, of Harrison, officiating. Interment was made in the Beaverton cemetery.
