Joseph W. Keene, 72, of 5129 Pleasant Dr., Beaverton died Friday, Oct. 7, in 
the Midland Hospital Center after a long illness. Born in Dansville on January 
31, 1911, he came to Gladwin County in 1960 from Dansville. He was an 
electrician and developed Keene's Pleasure Island in Billings Township. Mr. 
Keene was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge in Ypsilanti. He was married 
to the former Shirley Wilson on November 26, 1936 in Dansville.
   Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Jerry of Ypsilanti and Joseph 
II of LeMesa, Calif.; 3 daughters, Mrs. John (Joan) Lapp of Edenville, Mrs. 
Charles (Jean) Gronda of Cheboygan and Mrs. Enrique (Judy) Martinez of Benson, 
Ariz.; 2 sisters, Ernestine Keene of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Frances Sherman of 
Spring Arbor; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
   Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton 
Chapel. The Rev. William Cozadd officiated and burial was in the Dale 
Cemetery.
