Perry Hoover officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Paul Robinson. Burial was in the Beaverton cemetery. Ward died last Wednesday afternoon from injuries received in an auto accident last Monday night 3 miles south of Gladwin on M-18. He suffered a depressed skull fracture and other injuries when the car in which he was riding with Carl E. Whitting, of Saginaw, overturned on M-18 while they were returning from a deer hunting trip. Whitting was instantly killed in the accident. Attendants at the Saginaw General Hospital said that Ward never regained consciousness after the accident. Ward was born in Rochester, Michigan, on March 16, 1916, and had spent most of his life in Gladwin county. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark King, of Beaverton. He served as chief deputy sheriff under Sheriff Ray Cowell for nearly 18 months, leaving here in the Spring of 1941 to take a position with the Saginaw Steering Gear machine gun plant. Surviving are his wife, Helyn; two daughters, DeLynn Helyn, 2 years old, and Carolyn Mae, 2 months old; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark King, of Beaverton; and a brother, Lorrain King, of Beaverton.
