TOBACCO PIONEER IS TAKEN BY DEATH

   John Maier, 87, died at his home in Tobacco township on Monday, June 17. 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock at the 
Brethren church. Burial will take place in the Dale cemetery. Rev. E. S. 
Hollinger will officiate. Mr. Maier was born on July 16, 1859 in Edon, Ohio, 
and has made his home in Tobacco township for the past 50 years. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, in 1940. 
   Surviving are one brother, Andrew Maier, of Edon, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. 
Sophia Cobbin, of Goshen, Indiana, Mrs. Margaret Waller, Mrs. Bertha McLoudry, 
both of Los Angeles, California; also one nephew, Clarence Maier, who makes 
his home on the Maier farm in Tobacco township.
