BETTY J. MANES

   Betty J. Manes, 70, of Beaverton, died Thursday, April 3, 1997 at 
MidMichigan Regional Medical Center Midland after a long illness. Born March 
6, 1927 in Royal Oak, she previously lived in Pontiac. The former Betty Mussen 
married Chet Manes, Dec. 20, 1958 in Commerce.
   Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Jack and wife Sue Wortman 
of Gladwin, and Ronald and wife Jan Wortman of Midland; two daughters, Ruth 
Wortman of Farwell, and Debbie and husband William Johnson of Lapeer; two 
brothers, Harry Mussen of Indian Rocks, Fla. and Roy Mussen of Walled Lake; 
nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death 
by one brother.
   Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin 
Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Manes officiating. Burial was in the Beaverton 
Cemetery, Beaverton. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to 
consider memorials to the American Lung Association.
